U.S. News and World Report ranks it 200 below LSU.

K. I don’t doubt the ranking.
What does that have to do with someone questioning the press release’s statement about the R1 classification? R1 was the decided measure they used because whatever that designation means was achieved under Savioe’s tenure.
Seems pretty straight forward, and said nothing about LSU, which has achieved a ton itself as well.

Sources close to the UL System have told The Current that Savoie’s early exit is related to the university’s financial instability, though they said a clear picture of its financial condition has yet to be determined.
And there is the reason for the 2 day notice

UL Lafayette earned the prestigious Carnegie R1 classification
I mean, UNO has a R2 designation and most people want it closed.
After looking it up, it means UL hands out a lot of PhDs and spends a lot of money

There’s a reason many called Authement “The Fossil”.
Savoie overall was good and an improvement. He left the school better off academically and athletically than where it began under him.
However, it’s been time for him to go for a few years now. shite’s been getting too stale inside Martin Hall. I’d like to see the university hire a President who isn’t looking for this position to be a retirement check. Someone a bit younger with some energy.
I think ULM made a good recent hire, and the guy who has been heading up TX State since about 2022 has helped them make some good strides. He’s actually someone who hasn’t spent his entire professional career in sheltered academia. Made a living in the real world for a bit.

You’re laughing but they have alumni who genuinely believe USL is a better school than LSU. The delusion is mind boggling.
It's a statistical fact. It's mostly about how much money you bring in. That monkey facility in New Iberia is a cash cow when it comes to getting grants from the FEDs and pharmaceutical giants.

Like other public universities in the state, UL is staring down a major financial deficit in its athletic department.
It was always stupid of them to spend so much on their football program. That was never going to be profitable.

If ULaLa wants to improve, they need to hire a president who has no ties to the university.

I was commenting on another poster’s comment and my experience with people that went to your school. I personally have nothing against the school but you have some delusional people in regard to where you measure up with LSU. U.S. News and World Report has ranked universities for years and it’s pretty accurate. You’re 200 below us, It’s just a fact. That’s what I was originally commenting on. You engaged me apparently because you took offense to my post.

I think it’s ok if they have ties to the university, but we need someone who has done something other than academia their entire professional life. It’s ok for an LSU or a UT to hire someone like that who has seemingly endless money, but I believe a UL or Texas State could benefit from someone who’s had other real life experiences. Hire someone who had to build a business or be a project manager for a big company. A bank branch manager at least. Someone who knows how you have to hustle for revenues to pay your bills and isn’t shy about doing so.

Guy seemed to truly love the school and did a lot of small things, with no press or fanfare, that proved that. Often would see him picking up trash on weekend mornings or during the summer by himself.
