"No, bitch. They also stabbed us." Wtf?! Why wouldn't they be "okay"??

I have a family member with a kid with a different last name and she has to bring a birth certificate with her to avoid this happeneing.

o be fair, infants dont normally show identification at the ticket counter, so I am not really sure how she was supposed to prove his identity.
Eta: I am still wondering why she had a passport for him- SWA doesnt fly international do they?
Kid had a passport and yes, Southwest actually has quite a few international flights.

Wait his father wasn’t around? Color me shocked.

Yeah, it is.
Because Southwest is getting heat for doing their due diligence to prevent international kidnapping and human trafficking, which is a major issue on this planet.
The baby had a different name and looked different than her. That raised alarm bells for the airline because they were flying out of the country, AS IT frickING SHOULD.

Are they both white?
If so, please tweet that this woman and everyone that is encouraging this behavior.

So, lemme get this straight. This goofy bitch is insinuating that a black lady with a black kid would get noticed MORE?
Whatever would the po' black folks do without whitey looking out for them?!

This is getting ridiculous. Someone has a vendetta on SWA right now and is making sure every little story about them makes the news.
FFS they have different last names. That’s the issue here. Maybe if you weren’t trash having babies out of wedlock, you wouldn’t have this issue.

My sister carries my niece's birth certificate when they travel. It has mom's and dad's name on it. That's a pretty good way.
Not for nothing, you'd think sometimes people would be glad that an extra step for security was taken. Sure as that kid had been kidnapped the first thing said would be, "couldn't they see the kid was black and the "mom" wasn't?"

Yes they are white. The whole issue started when she tried to leave the country with the child for a family vacation. The last names on the passports did not match. The airline if they name was hyphenated it was ok but otherwise bring the birth certificate too.

I have been asked to provide a copy of my sons birth certificate in order to prove his age
I understand completely why the would also want one for international travel if your last names do not match

Having flown SWA with my two boys under the age of 2, I can confirm they ask for a BIRTH CERTIFICATE
Southwest Link of Infant Rules
Infants:
One child over 14 days and under two (2) years of age, not occupying a seat, may be carried free of charge when traveling with an adult (12 years of age or older). Although a boarding pass is not required for the infant, you will need a Boarding Verification Document.
Affordable Infant fares are also available allowing a Customer to reserve a seat for an infant and use his/her FAA-approved car seat. Online checkin is available if the infant is traveling on an Infant fare and is age verified.
To book Infant Fares for international flights, please contact us to book via phone at 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792). After booking, you can view or cancel existing international itineraries for any of these fare types online at Southwest.com.
A copy of the child's birth certificate is required to validate the age of all infants under two.
A medical release for travel is required for any infant under 14 days old.

Right. I dont have a problem with her son needing identification, nor do I dont see this as race issue. If its their policy I have no problem, I obviously havent flown with SWA with small children.

This thread has angered me irrationally. I’m taking a break from the internet today.

I'm more outraged that this only happened once out of 50 times.
Is hate for someone to be able to walk off with my son just because people were afraid of being labeled a racist for checking something suspicious.
