After more than a year of litigation, the University of California, Berkeley, has settled a lawsuit with the Young Americas Foundation and the UC Berkeley College Republicans.

Campus conservatives accused the university of bias in the process of bringing high-profile speakers to campus. The original lawsuit revolved around the cancellation of an event with Ann Coulter. An amended version of the lawsuit included road blocks initiated by the university for an event with Ben Shapiro.

“This Department of Justice will not stand by idly while public universities violate students’ constitutional rights,” Associate Attorney General Rachel Brand said at the time.

In the settlement, UC Berkeley agreed to the following terms set by YAF:

Pay YAF $70,000.

Rescind the unconstitutional “High-Profile Speaker Policy.

”Rescind the viewpoint-discriminatory security fee policy.

Abolish its heckler’s veto — protesters will no longer be able to shut down conservative expression

good but for every instance of Ann Coulter or Ben Shapriro, etc having a speech canceled because some crazy students protest they go to 10 other campuses without significant incident.

These children need to be ignored because their making it seem like it's a giant problem when it's actually a bit overblown

Good, Universities should not be able to decide free speech.

The way they justify it is they say that any speech they disagree with is hate speech and hate speech is not free speech.

As SFP says, hate speech should be the most protected speech.

No longer the Obama/Holder DOJ that allowed lefties to illegally shut opposition down. Conservatives need to make sure they get all of this in blood from these schools to help prevent it in the future. Obama admin sadly proved that our constitution isn't followed by all, and unfortunately overlookable.

One think places need to look into is banning people from covering their faces during protests. Give cops that ability to instantly detain anyone covering their face. Even if it's just to set them aside in the time being, and record them.

You are 100% infallibly correct. And the next time the police arrest you and search your home without a warrant, or the police do nothing about any crazy individual or mob attacking you in the streets, you need to say and do nothing because that doesn't usually happen to people.

Your complaint in that instance needs to be ignored because you'd be making it seem like a giant problem when it's actually a bit overblown.

Huge loss for the Left, because they cannot win in the arena of ideas. It's the very reason they invented Political Correctness.

I have to go back and look

Different things. Freedom of speech isn't freedom to hide your face while doing so.

So you are ok with people covering their faces as they do harm, damage, and other illegal acts?

I guess we shouldnt question anyone walking into a bank with a mask...

The constitutionality of anti-mask laws is challenged quite often, and many states have ruled them unconstitutional. Some say they're allowed whenever the mask is worn in order to threaten violence.

Saying the Obama admin played fast and loose with the constitution and then immediately asking for a ban of masks during protest is hypocritical. Wearing a mask shouldn't be against the law if you're otherwise following the law.

You can't walk into a store, or bank etc with your face covered with a mask. It's a threat that you are going to rob them. You shouldn't be able to cover your face in a place where rioting and protesting are happening. Its the same threat. I would imagine an even bigger one.

I'll let criminals know that when someone is trying to ID them during their trial

so there are some states that havent found it unconstitutional then? So obviously not being hypocritcal. We are living in different times, so lets see how non-west coast courts would see this as a "right". Thats why I said, places need to look into making it law. I hope Dallas does, before the whole cop shooting trial ends in the next 1-2 yrs.

Tell me why a protester would be covering his face with a bandana? Thats a clear sign of a lefist antifa type at a rally/protest. Like a confederate flag/nazi symbol/shaved head for a white supremacist.

Dude I am on board with the court decision to punish Berkeley but this sounds totalitarian.
