Uber or Lyft? I'm finally giving in

Of course I've been resistant to change or any good idea someone younger than me thought of. But getting tired of $40 cab fares. Is there much difference in the two, or just personal preference? Thanks guys

Lyft usually has better drivers/cleaner cars while uber is cheaper.

Default to Uber and if it hits peak pricing or doesn't have nearby drivers, switch to Lyft.

You've been taking cabs this whole time?
And get both and evaluate which one is cheaper at the time you need a ride. Uber has more cars so I'd usually go there first.

I have used both. Both are far superior to cabs in my town.
I used uber in NYC exclusively the last time I was there. It was great.

Yes but just a few times a year when car is in shop and such. I was skeptical at first, but the service seems pretty well received so I'm gonna give it a try. I'll sure miss the conversations w/the big black fellas though, being serious. I used the same two guys and they were both straight up cool & funny w/the best stories. I'm in Chattanooga so we shall see.

I had a friend call me an Uber over her account in Denver recently to get back to my hotel. I have no idea what it cost. It was quick and service seemed fine. I had to convince the guy to give me the ride and that she wasn't coming along. He accepted and I tipped him 5$ when he dropped me off.

Lyft sucks and just copied uber. They have cute pink mustaches on the front of their cars tho.

Fairly similar, but at times I found Lyft drivers to be a bit chatty.
That said, I've started using Lyft more. I've seen a decline in Ubers service quality, while Lyft has been pretty reliable and I've never had a cancelled ride.
Uber customer service if you have an issue is pretty good though.
ETA: I live in NYC now and most drive for both companies, so it's a kinda irrelevant here.

As a Lyft and Uber driver I can give you a referral code for both that would give you ride credits as a new sign up. Right now, with Lyft, the rider credit is $50 in NOLA.
If interested, email me at doublecutter@cox.net and I'll send you a link.

Use the coupon codes (I know... OT Poor) And your first ride with either company is free. And have a friend refer you so they get a free ride.

How are you able to drive for both? No contracts?
Posted on 8/4/16 at 7:42 am to Martini
The contracts don't preclude driving for more than one.

All the drivers I know drive for both so it's a matter of timing more than anything. Search for coupons. Got a free ride from Chicago airport to downtown recently.

Wife and j just spent a week in Chicago and used both about a dozen times
Most of the drivers drove for both and we ended up using lyft more. Über had this crazy surcharge during peak hours and if it rained. One ride was 4x the rate. Lyft had a surcharge but much much less.
I've had great experiences with both. I use uber all the time in L.A. And never had an issue. I love the shared ride. Lol. Always fun to talk to strangers and see where they are going

Have used both all over Houston and Vegas. Most of the drivers I encountered actually drove for both Lyft and Uber at different times of the day or different days. Lyft had better coupon codes but overall Uber was cheaper.

I've noticed this as well. Lyft has been doing 50% off weekday rides a lot this summer.

I prefer Lyft. The rates on Lyft don't seem to surge nearly as much as Uber, and when they do surge, it's not ridiculous - maybe 25-50%.
In DC, most drivers drive for Uber and Lyft, so availability/proximity is never really an issue here. I know it's probably different elsewhere.
