I used to drive for Uber, but quit when the rates were lowered in January of 2016. Being good at math I realized after 1 trip at the lower rates that I would lose money. I turned the app off and haven't turned it on since.

I drove a nice luxury vehicle, that is mechanically sound, and in great condition. I was frequently told it was the nicest uber vehicle the rider had been in. I had an advantage in that the vehicle was paid for and already had high mileage. Even without considering depreciation, many drivers cannot make money at the current rate structure unless there is a surge over 2.5.

I was doing this to occupy some time, and make a little money, not as a career, so the lower rates were not worth it for me.

Since the rates dropped I have noticed a real drop in the quality of vehicles and the quality of the drivers. It is only going to get worse.

it should be noted that Uber is tough on drivers that cancel rides. They will boat them off the system if they cancel too many rides.

I wouldn't do it, have to pay the toll, and then travel back 25 miles and pay the gas.

I recently wound up with a driver who also delivered my food for Waitr one time. Just what are chances of that happening again?

i don't see an issue. I wouldn't do it if I was them.

what if they get caught on the causeway with a wreck.

that may ruin a whole work day for them

Uber should charge more, or they should get a new job then

Ever notice how you only hear uber ads directed at recruiting drivers, not passengers?

they charge the customer for the return toll

have to pay the toll,

At least they are running the clock for almost a solid hour straight. Can a uber driver do 5 $10 fares in an hour and a half if it's slow? How long do they usually wait between fares?

But do your realize the driver's motive is to make money? If they are doing this for a living, then shame on them for not caring whether or not you don't want to drive. Its like a local walmart.. There are certain items that you might not be able to get at a local walmart that might be sold at a bigger walmart in a bigger city. The reason that happens is because it isn't worth it for that specific store to care that item.

Solid

A couple weekends ago I got the same driver twice in one night. Once on Uber around 10pm then got him again using Lyft at like 3am.

my point is one of these two "wants/needs" a ride across the lake.

the other of the two "doesn't need/want" the hassle.

i don't think they will cry over this loss of business. i think people are expecting too much from these services. the riders will need to make it worthwhile for the driver or the drivers will all start turning them down.

So, you have a real job. Good for you.

Good. Because those companies are scamming the poor individuals that aren't itemizing the costs of doing the job.

Why is that up to me? If they don't want to make that drive their beef should be with Uber. My deal is with Uber. Uber sets the rates, I just want the ride. The deal between driver and Uber is not my business. If they are not happy with that arrangement they need to tell Uber to represent them differently, charge more, not offer the service etc.

but nobody will give you the ride in the future if they don't get compensated.

of course you want the ride. if you think uber will do anything you are mistaken. they could care less about the northshore

Yeah it's not like Uber is a new concept. People have been able to get into a cab coming up on 100 years now. Uber is Uber because of the convenience. Con-ven-ience.

You sound like an Uber driver.

I thought this too, but even when I put my destination before even requesting, they do not seem to know until I get into the car and they click to begin the trip.

if Uber drivers can't make money you will end up not having that service available anymore causing your arse to have to drive drunk.
