Who said anything about being drunk?

I was specifically thinking about being in another city, with no car, and needing a ride somewhere 30+ min away

When I used it this past weekend, I entered a pick up address and a destination address before the "call" went out to the drivers. Don't know if this is new, I don't use Uber much.

Don't they get locked out if they refuse a ride?

we need a high speed rail across the lake(with a full service bar and massage therapists,) or they can take the old Gondola from the world's fair and run it part way

My understanding is that Uber was really supposed to be more of ride-share service. So, they really shouldn't be taking people all the way out there if either
A) They aren't already going that way
B) They can't get another passenger for the return trip

They do not know your destination until they arrive at your location. This is why I started to text them before they begin the route to pick me up.

Im trying not to be an a-hole and give them the opportunity to refuse the service.

I agree, ther should be a surcharge for an empty leg back but that's on Uber not me. I happen to tip very well when they do bring me across.

The fare runs between $45 and $55.

well then there is nothing wrong with any of that.

but i imagine they have been getting the shaft whether intentional or not. Imagine even getting a good tip and then sitting on the causeway for 3 hours after. you would lose money as a driver.

Well this is where simple economics kicks in, because based on the model Uber set forth...the driver is their own boss and if it isn't in their best interest to make that run then so be it

I have read where a refusal or cancelled trip by the driver has a negative affect on a drivers rating.

I drive for Uber, and we definitely do not know the destination beforehand. The destination only shows up after I swipe for the ride to start. There used to be a way to see the destination after you accept the ride, but before you pick them up. Now it only shows "as directed"

If they wanted that, it would be very easy for Uber to limit your destination to 10 miles away or something.

I had this happen 2 weeks ago. Dude is driving a $30k Suv and bitching to me that he won't be making money on the trip back.

Do they not know the destination you're going when they accept the ride?

Las time I took a uber from the Airport to my house in Covington (near Lakeview Hospital) It was $61.02. The whole trip I would say an hour and a half from the airport, to my house and back to metairie. Take that however you will, but at least she had the meter running for almost an hour straight. Could she have made 6 $10 fares in the same amount of time in metaire? I dunno.

EDIT. Fare was actually $52.57
Causeway return toll $3.00
Booking fee $1.45
MSY Airport surcharge $4.00
Total $61.02

If you type in your destination when you request, they most certainly do know where you're going.

It's the nice thing to do; I certainly don't want to get in the car with a pissed off driver.

he asked to be called one, this is the same mentality of people that bitch about flying from MSY-LAX(example) to anywhere for $79 being too high, you couldn't hardly get out of the state for that in your own vehicle, transportation is a for profit industry(despite the yahoos that run the companies in it)

As verified by an Uber driver, they DO NOT know your destination even when you enter it.

This is the reason I have started texting the my destination.

they do not know the destination before accepting and if they pass on 2 rides in a row they get locked out for 30 minutes

No, it doesn't.

They'll get a notice about their acceptance/cancelation rate but that's about it

I haven't used Uber for a long haul in BR or NOLA but I did get one to take me from Charleston at bar closing time all the way to Folly Beach. Knowing that by the time he got back to Charleston he wouldn't have any more rides, I tipped him to help offset that.

That would be on the contractor. Set your radius, and only pick up customers that want to travel in that radius. If you are planning on driving up to the north shore, turn on the Uber app, pick up a customer, and it helps pay for your gas.

I have only used uber and lyft in vegas but when I did, you put in your pickup location and destination to get your estimated fare before you agreed to requesting the ride. I don't see how they wouldn't know where you are wanting to go.

Uber does not know your destination

You CAN enter your destination into the app, but it is optional

And I have had Uber drivers tell me in person that the destination does not pop up until after they accept the trip
