Is that how it works currently? It makes sense to do it that way.

I drive Uber. You don't know the destination until you swipe to start the ride. That being said I've never turned down a location. But ultimately, if I swiped to start a ride and it was some place that I really didn't want to go all i would really have to say is "Sorry can't do it" and I bet it wouldn't be the end of the world. Nobody is forcing anybody to go anywhere. Talking to riders lately, however, they have said there have been more flaky drivers than usual.

Makes me feel fantastic about the Fort Lauderdale to NOLA 39 dollar flight I just booked.

I just quit driving for Uber, and the driver DOES NOT know the destination until he arrives to pick up the rider.

I know for a fact that UBER does not disclose a customer's destination request until the customer is in the UBER partner's vehicle.

Trips don't pop up until the driver arrives at the riders pickup location...this is to prevent drivers from cherry picking rides

ETA: to be more precise, the destination doesn't pop up until after the driver starts the trip

no shite, you're reducing a 12-13 hour drive into an hour and forty minute flight, and having a few cocktails served to you on the way...as long as they don't do the Southwest engine thing again

That's a good question. It would make sense to have it work that way. My understanding is that Uber isn't always very cost effective for drivers trying to make money with it as a cab service. Seems that a system like that would prevent these problems.

That's what I have been experiencing. For a while the drivers where fine with it, not its a complete opposite.

I think there is something similar with the self-driving vehicles. Actual drivers at the very least will still get dinged with their acceptance as far as I know.

Call me an a-hole, but when I Uber it is because I don't want to or can't drive at the moment. My motive is not to ensure the driver makes money.

Yep. And the motive of the driver is to make money, so I have no problem with them cancelling a trip that will net them close to nothing.

I've noticed this as well. Some of the cars people are showing up in are junk.

I wouldn't do it either. You should have to pay more as they are going back empty. Really you are almost fricking them.

This. For any trip over X distance, you should have to pay for round trip, unless the driver gets a fare for the return.

No, but I don't expect a guy to show up in a rundown ford Taurus with dirty children's clothes in the backseat.

The service is barely above the taxi service in BR.

If the drivers don't like the system let them tell Uber and get it changed. I would be pissed if a driver told me he didn't want to take me after I got in the car.

They do. Doesn't mean people are going to follow the rules.

Uber is great in big cities but it's not all that great in BR.
