TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -
A police officer in Texarkana, TX has a message for people after getting a call Sunday morning for a dog people assumed was dangerous.
When the officer arrived he saw the dog lying on someone's front porch. He whistled for the dog and it came up to him wagging its tail, according to a Facebook post from the police department.
After petting the dog for a little while, it went right up to the officer's patrol unit, jumped in the front seat, and made himself at home.
Officer Frost says they just hung out together and took some pictures until an animal control officer got there.
In the Facebook post, Officer Frost went on to say while you should always be careful around any dog that you don’t know, you shouldn’t automatically assume that all pit bulls are bad dogs.

Well, this didn’t go quite like we thought it would.
After we got a vicious dog call this morning, Officer Travis Frost spotted the dog laying on someone’s front porch there. Travis said that he left the door of his patrol unit open so he could quickly jump back in if the dog was vicious and came after him. He whistled at the dog, who then came trotting over to him with his tail wagging. After Travis pet the dog for a minute, he went right up to the patrol unit, jumped in the front seat, and just made himself at home. Travis said they just hung out together and took some pictures until an Animal Control Officer got there.
Pit Bulls have a bit of a bad reputation. Travis said that, while you should always be careful around any dog that you don’t know, you shouldn’t automatically assume that all pit bulls are bad dogs. They might be really loving like this guy was this morning.

That's actually not a pit.
That's an American Bully.
Think pit bulldog hybrid.

Update: Officer Frost has been mauled by pit bull that never showed signs of aggressiveness before.

This is actually good advice. Just assume that most pit bulls are bad dogs and you'll be fine.

Ears cropped. . . You really only do that for one reason.

The cop left out the part where he gave the dog bacon before all of this

Last weekend we were taking our usual Sunday drive, right as we turn by the water tower in Grosse Tete I spot two 50-60lb pits in the road ahead. Running around, being typically goofy like young pits.
My wife wants to pet them, I'm not a fan of the breed.
We stop, and the male circles the car, my wife opens the door and the female just jumps into her lap and starts kissing her like crazy. The male comes around and does the same thing.
They were both young pups, maybe 18 months old.
I'm still not a fan of the breed, but the pups were extremely friendly and sweet.
Turns out the belonged to the house down about half a mile and the daughter accidentally let them out.

Because it really cuts down on ear infections in short eared dogs?

Saying that Pitt Bulls don’t make good pets is not the same as saying they are “bad”.
Lions, Tigers, and Bears don’t make good house pets either, but they’re big and beautiful and potentially very dangerous.
When I walk my dachshund down the street, I don’t have to pass several undermatched and ill-prepared people walking their pet Tiger down the same sidewalk as me. I wish I could say that about Pitt Bulls as well.
