My opinion is - in the event they crash, and kill a bunch of poors, no one will care.
That. And cheaper land. Same with rail.

—Good grief. BR airport was an Army Air Corps base in WW2. Of course it’s gonna be way out of town, especially 80 years ago. It’s also fairly close to Standard Oil, which manufactured aviation fuel during the war.

Landed last night around midnight and saw a bunch of cops right near where you pay to park sort of near the car rental garage. Guess that was this.

Would this be why we aborted the landing and flew around? That was kind of weird. Article says they didn't close the airport though.

Hopefully this doesn’t potential grocers’ perception of North Baton Rouge. Gravy has been after a grocery store to set up shop for years.
is the Hi Nabor on Winbourne not a grocery store? And there is another store at Airline near the old earl k long hospital. Piggly wiggly/save a lot or something iirc. And one at plank/harding also. Does Gravy need a whole foods?

All of those don't count apparently. Neither does the Wal Mart Supercenter at Cortana or the new Rouses on Florida.

Baton Rouge has such a beautiful airport

It's a great little airport. No bullshite. It's clean and I can get from the gate to the car in 3 minutes. It's like on this little island where all the street lights are maintained and the parking areas are cleaned.

Then you leave airport property and enter north Baton Rouge, where everything you see reminds you that nobody gives a shite about that area. The roads are not maintained well....the local businesses are all crappy fast food and chain hotels....Entergy hasn't fixed a street light in 5 years....and there's a jail hidden behind some trees.

Stupid question but do all the teams that play LSU fly into Baton Rouge or is there another private airport by the campus?

Such a bad look when you have recruits fly in and immediately feel like they are in Beirut.

Most fly to btr but never see the terminal. Get picked up on the tarmac or they land near the private terminal (BR Jet). Most LSU teams depart this way.

Some of the smaller teams occasionally fly commercial. Flew to Dallas with either gym or soccer several years ago.

Don't take this the wrong way.....but there isn't a place where you could put an airport in Louisiana and not have people see how neglected everything is in the state. You can find areas where the businesses are well maintained,, but there just aren't any routes to or from anywhere around this state that look like they are maintained at all. Just small patches that aren't as bad as others.

LSU is nice. Parts of Baton Rouge do look very nice. The hotels and businesses along Harding near the airport actually doesn't look that bad. But to get there you have to use state highways that have 30+ years of deferred maintenance and sometimes you have to drive through neighborhoods that are sketchy (to put it nicely).

Your first impression once leaving ANY Louisiana airport is going to be that nobody cares about this place. And when it comes to public infrastructure, the state's LADOTD definitely does not care. They clearly resent the taxpayers and IMO should be dismantled.

Entergy is our big utility provider here. They are responsible for maintaining the lighting along the highway routes. It took them 3 years to fix the lighting at the stack interchange at Interstate 110@61. The entire thing was in the dark for years.

Were you on that Charlotte flight? I saw it kick out on approach but wasn't watching the landing.

Why are airports always in a shitty part of town ?

The airport can sometimes be a contributing factor to said part of town becoming shitty. The noise is unbearable, plus the jet fuel burnoff at low altitudes can come with some serious health risks.

Least shocking thing I've heard in a long time. Ever try to rent a car at BTR? any company doesnt matter.

Move LSU to New Orleans and bomb Baton Rouge to rubble. Use the rubble as a foundation for a big 8 lane highway that goes through the former city.

I'll never forget when residents of Coppell were complaining about the noise from DFW even though the airport was there before the town. I'm sure the same thing will happen in Austin as the southern part of the city develops.

Planes have only gotten quieter over the last 50 years, I'm not sure why people are surprised by these things when moving next to an airport.

Sounds like the argument involved at least one rental car employee.
