Two dogs better than one?

Any regrets from those who got a second dog? Did the first dog have jealousy issues or seem happy about the new addition? I've had my Yorkie for around 9 months (he turns 1 on Christmas day). Thinking about getting another, but not sure I want to go through the whole potty training thing again - though if I'm ever going to do it, I might as well do it now (plan on ditching the carpet for wood floors since the first dog had his way with the carpet for a few months). Does the second dog pick up on house-breaking quicker when he sees the other dog in action? What genders make the best combo (first one is a male and has been fixed)? I am home pretty much all day, every day, so my little dude is not lacking for attention, though once or twice a month we go out of town so he stays with neighbors or goes to Camp Bow Wow for a few days. Let's hear some pros and cons from the multi-dog owners...

More dogs are always better if you have the room and wherewithal. We've had two females and male/female before, and never had any problems. Never had two males at the same time, so I can't speak to that. As much as they like people, dogs are pack animals and thrive with the companionship of other dogs. I would watch a little puppy closely the first few days until they sort out the pecking order, then they should get along fine.

I'm actually thinking about getting a second dog myself, possibly for Christmas. I have a spoiled 2.5 year old female yellow lab. I think she would like having a friend, she loves to play with other dogs.

TL/DR.... But we got one from a high - end kennel & one from a shelter when both were pups. It helps with the being left alone anxiety thing. They had that companionship, that kept just one from wreaking shop. We learned from our mistakes years ago.

Just buy your son another car that you think is worth bragging about. Maybe then he will finally get laid.
Oh, and if you let your yorkie watch, he'll probably be cool with it and not need another queer dog to play with.

Always had two or three. Just had to put my old man down two weeks ago. 
As said, dogs are pack animals and they will figure out who is who as the leader.
For about a week, my other two dogs kept looking for my old man dog. Now and then, they still go lay down where my old man did all the time.

Quit overthinking things. Your current dog needs a companion. Get another dog. frick.

5 dogs. One inside , 4 outside. They all get along fine. There is a pecking order, but none of them really fricks with the others.

We always have 2 dogs together, I think that dogs need dog companionship. With that said, it might be hard on the 1st one when you bring home the 2nd one. Have to give it lots of attention.

I resisted keeping a second dog when my wife rescued one. But of course I caved and am glad I did. The two are inseparable. Play together all the time, and spoon when they're lying down.

My husband got his dog(male lab mix) when my dog was almost a year old. We were dating and not living together at the time so the two dogs spent a lot of time together(but not every moment together). Even though my pug is much smaller than our lab....he is the alpha dog of the two. My pug is now 8 and the lab 7 and the two are best buds now and hate being separated from each other.
I will always have at least two dogs now. Dogs tend to have less behavioral issues if they have another dog buddy to hang out with.

We got a second dog a year ago and it has worked out well. Our Weimaraner, inside dog with flip door, would get upset when we would leave the house. Separation anxiety.
We got a rescue Vizsla mix a year ago and before we brought her home we took our Weim to meet her and interact in a neutral setting. They have become pals and now when we leave it does not seem to be a big deal. She learned how to use the flip door the first day. To our way of thinking two dogs are better than one.

2 dogs are great, until one of them dies and the other one becomes severely depressed.
