I lived at highland condos in college. It was alright but my senior year I got held up at gunpoint like 10 feet from the front gate BRPD acted like it was my fault for being there after dark. I mean, I get that the area is sketchy as hell but if I can't walk 10 feet outside my apartment without feeling unsafe, the police need to get their shite together. Plus, there is a station literally a minute away.

I've been into most of the rough neighborhoods in BR and that's the only area where I felt pretty uncomfortable during the daytime

A family dollar IS the telltale sign of “enter this area at your own risk”

In my defense, I haven’t lived in BR in 10 years. I was almost exclusively on campus, or driving back and forth to an off campus house in Kenilworth. Shopping was done at the Albertsons on Perkins or College Drive Walmart (which has apparently gone to shite).

Farthest north I would go off of main streets was to Sacred Heart School near Govt, Main and 22nd. I did get screwed up with contraflow after a football game and up near Thomas Delpit, Eddie Robinson, etc.

Now that they have confirmed that one of the deceased was a missing LSU student, I have more questions. This kid was reported missing on March 26th. He was found dead in his own apartment. Assuming he died on or before the 26th, how is it that no one ever looked for him at his own apartment? Was he off hiding somewhere and went back to the apartment and then died? I suspect some kind of OD.

Anyone know if the male was from Central? Found a Facebook profile of someone with the same name, age fits. Went to HS at St. Amant it looks like but in his profile it says lives in and from Central.

Lots of shite in BR is close to the ghetto. That doesn't make it part of the ghetto. At least three of those apartment complexes on that block are marketed as upscale walking distance options for students, they are controlled access and parking and relatively new. I've never been to the one they're reporting in the article but it's also gated and looks to be condos.

Wasn't someone robbed and shot in the parking garage of one of those gated complexes less than a year ago?

All we know is there was no sign of trauma on the bodies. Leads me to think it was an OD. Must have gotten a bad batch of whatever it was. But who knows, could be a number of freak things like carbon monoxide or something. They are doing an autopsy.

I'm sure it's possible. There have been armed robberies on campus itself. Part of BR's charm is you can be robbed or murdered just about anywhere in the city. Still a pretty distinct difference between student housing and the projects like some people assumed.

I'd say the area is a bit sketchier than Tigerland, which is also "student housing."

Advocate says it wasn't their apartment. It was a rental but not from Air BnB.

Ok, I took rental to just mean a short term lease, like month-to-month or something along those lines. So I assumed they may have been there for a while, long enough for friends and family to know where to find them.
