The ordeal began at 1:59 a.m. when officers were working a special detail dealing with a rash of car break-ins in that area. An undercover officer spotted at least two suspects who appeared to be trying door handles to see if they were locked. The officer called for backup, and the sergeant arrived. The officer and the sergeant approached two suspects. "The officers approached one suspect and patted him down where they found what they believed to be a weapon,'' Smith said. “They asked him about it, he armed himself and fired upon our officers.”

Horrible story. Remarkably, this is the first time a Birmingham Police officer has been killed in the line of duty since June of 2004.

No races mentioned so we are told it doesnt matter unless the ones shot are black/illegals, and shooters are white/legal immigrants.

(on a more serious note...Prayers to their families in this time.)

Now hold up.

So you are saying that someone can just appear to be something wrong?

Like certain stuff can just be obvious and it’s not just racial profiling?

The deceased officer appears to have been African American.

Not judging, of course, but based on address, I must assume that 100% of the patrons and employees of the club were African American.

Correct. This was not "downtown." It is west of I65. Rough area.

My good man, by downtown "club", do you mean something like the Boston Club?

I've heard a lot of good things this morning about Sergeant Carter from people who knew him.

There are a-hole cops just like every profession but there are also dedicated public servants who put their lives in the line to protect people and property.
It is easy to say frick the police until something like this reminds us that they are human too.
No way in hell I would want that job during the current political climate.
They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t these days.
Good police officers, good journalists and good priests have the toughest jobs in what should be noble callings in today’s society. Is there any wonder we are teetering on the verge of societal collapse?

Speaking of cop murders..., the guy who murdered Natalie Corona thought the police had been hitting him for years with sonic waves LINK here

Because they identify a weapon in a Terry frisk and it still is used against them? Seems like some level of incompetence
