One of the truck drivers that works for one of my suppliers is on the Sexual Offender list and he has a Twic card.

Just renewed mine last month.
Depends how busy your area is. I walked into the Houma location, gave the my required documents and did the other bs. Was in and out in 15 minutes.
Was told it could take up to a month. Got the call 3 days later that my card was ready for pick up.
Went for pickup and was in and out in 5 minutes.
Depending what kind of felony or history you have may throw up red flags.

Ok. A guy I know said he didn't get his because of unpaid traffic tickets which sounded strange hence the thread

Just redid mine. Filled out information inline and made a morning appointment to go complete process. In and out in 10 minutes and card came in the next week.

Easy process. Background check and drug test.
Takes about a week to get the card if you have a clean record.

You can have a TWIC and still fail the background check to get into our sites. The background check we require digs much deeper than s TWIC check

eta ok maybe not a drug test but definitely a background check. Ice taken so many DOT drug tests I forget what they're for.

Yeah I'm not sure where the drug screen comes from, that's performed by the employer.

It's legit easier to get a TWIC than it is to renew your drivers license in LA.

I just did the process for a TWIC card in Houston a couple of months ago.
Signed up online, set an appointment
Showed up with passport and drivers license at said appointment time
Took my picture and checked credentials
Was out in 5 minutes
Received the card 2 weeks later.
No drug test, etc.

Mine took over 6 weeks, got several people at plant that are having similar wait times.

There are people including myself in Louisiana who have taken it and haven't had a major background or drug test. I don't care what TSA says, but I'm not lying to you. Majority of people I know have TWICs for work and will tell you the same.

What exactly does a TWIC card allow you to do? I thought it was only for offshore work, but it looks like you need one for plants too? Essentially a background check to make sure you're not a sleeper terrorist?

yea. allows you into plants like exxon/valero/etc.
