The fact remains that you are upset over a company asking end users to limit usage to keep the system safe.

You should Google curtailment and recognize that all utilities have a plan in place for it.

If you are upset that tva does not have standby capacity for these record demand scenarios, you don't seem to understand economics.

Quick question though: did you lose power? If you did, blame your LPC because TVA met the demand over the past week.

I'm not upset at all. I said frick'em and carried on as normal.

Get back with me when their "curtailment" policy includes EVs.

You don't seem to understand energy production and consumption.

You don't ask people to turn down the heat, and then push EVs that use as much electricity in 100 miles as does the average American household in a day. Especially when you are killing off large parts of your production for environmental (read that political) reasons.

No, and I don't blame anyone when weather takes lines down.

Had they shut down the grid, that would have been different.

Lost power for 9 days during the Day of the Storms, April 27, 2011.

these two aren't as close related as you seem to think they are in peak demand events, especially ones where the general guidance in the valley is "stay off the roads".

It's amazing how people who know so little about something speak with such authority.

Here are FACTS that we know to be true.

1. The average electric vehicle requires 30 kilowatt-hours to travel 100 miles — the same amount of electricity an average American home uses each day to run appliances, computers, lights and heating and air conditioning.

2. TVA asked users to conserve power.

3. TVA has no less than three web pages pushing EVs.

TVA on the EV bandwagon

TVA's Fast Charge Network

TVA SMART Stations

Once again: The average electric vehicle requires 30 kilowatt-hours to travel 100 miles — the same amount of electricity an average American home uses each day to run appliances, computers, lights and heating and air conditioning.

If you can prove that wrong, do it.

How much power is needed to drive 0 miles?

There's your disconnect.

RIGHT! All of the EV owners will park every single time there is a high usage event.

Of course they won't. People are stupid, regardless of what they're driving. But, you're still talking out of your arse with garbage data.

And people line up 50 cars deep filling every container they have with gas whenever a hurricane rolls through, what's your point?

You're a moron in this thread just like you were in the EV thread.

Looks like that struck a nerve. It’d be funny if not so pathetic. But not quite as pathetic as your ramblings trying to equate promoted home energy conservation during an unusual cold spell to EV use. As others here point out as well, you have zero clue of what you’re talking about. Just like your president obviously.

Apples to cinder blocks, you idiot.

You are talking large scale natural disaster where infrastructure can be completely destroyed to a snow storm where powerlines might be down a day or two. Or just severe cold where people turn up the thermostat a little.

When is the last time snow took out refineries like Katrina did?

LOL. Now it’s post count? I would say you could do better, but you have clearly demonstrated in replies that you can’t. Carry on. What’s next…you want to have a spelling contest or compare shoe sizes? I think I’ve just entered the rent free zone of your head, and it’s empty in here. Carry on Darth. Your responses are entertaining and you have no substance, no point, just mindless ramblings of something you “think” you know about. Or when someone counterpoints you, you throw a tantrum. Typical Lib.

Not really, both are about energy usage during unusual events. Just pointing out that dumb people with EVs are the same as dumb people with ICEs

They’ll have excess capacity after they drastically reduce the population as planned.
