You do realize that nothing is filmed in 120 fps (besides slow motion that is reduced to 24 or 30 fps), right?
The only native 120 fps signal would be coming from a video card on a computer while playing games.

unless it's NBC, the cox HD channels fricking suck. I bought a brand new 65' Sony a few months ago and it makes me feel like I'm wasting it every time I watch cable

While GIGO certainly applies to video quality upconversion can increase the viewing experience on a high pixel density display over a lower pixel density display. That assumes you are sitting close enough to a given display size to resolve the higher resolution.
Curved displays aren't exactly BS. IF you sit within the sets sweet spot it can produce a more immersive experience especially in a light controlled room. That said the majority of people do not use their TVs in that manner and will find the narrow viewing angle that produces a good image to be a negative. The curved screens were just not made large enough to work for most if they had made 140" diagonal curved screens the view of them would be different.

And here I am a few months later after buying a 65 inch 4K samsung on black friday 2018 for like 450 dollars because I thought my 50 inch was a bit too small.

My first 1080p display was a Mitsubishi 65" rear projection TV and was $5500 in 2001. It replaced a 40" 480p Mits CRT and was the single biggest jump in picture quality in TVs I have owned.

For the first few months they brag about how great it is and how much better than the old one they had.
