Then you should get out more. Hyperthyroidism isn't THAT uncommon.

Have a friend that has Graves disease. She has an overproduction of thyroid hormones. She kept losing weight no matter how much she ate. She had to have radioactive iodine therapy to treat it.

Only in sarcasm. My wife lost a lot of weight that she couldn't afford to lose and went from 125 to 105 in about 2 months, and at 5 ft. 6 inches tall, she looked anorexic. Add to that her resting heart rate was over 100 beats per minute and she was falling apart in a hurry.

She saw my Dr. of internal medicine and was diagnosed as having hyperthyroidism once the blood work and other test came back. It took the better part of a year of experimenting with various thyroid medicines to get her balanced and back on track. It was a crazy run for a while.

Yep, my wife had her thyroid irradiated to help control her problem, along with medication that she has to take for life now.

That's pretty high. I've seen as high as 42 online. Usually by that point people have started losing hair and have brittle nails.. best to catch it early on.

Mom had thyroid cancer early in her 30's. I always thought it was from smoking. turns out its hereditary.

There's really nothing more important than to get your annual physical if you want to live to a decent age. Preventative care is where it's at. Even if you feel fine, I'd strongly recommend annual physicals to anyone 30 and over. They're typically fully covered by your insurance. Annual blood tests, doctor's notes, urinalysis, etc. can lead to some great trending so your doctors get a better view of what your body's weaknesses are and allow them to catch more serious issues as early as possible.

I preach to my friends all the time because they only go to the doctor if they absolutely have to, a few got bad news because of their reluctance to see a doctor. frick that. Getcha damn physicals, baws.

Bit of trivia. The comedian Marty Feldman, famous for his role as Igor in "Young Frankenstein" also suffered from Graves Disease, causing his eyes to bulge like they did in his adult life.

Really? The vast majority of people like to blame things on medical conditions that don’t pertain to them, especially when it comes to weight. In the real world numbers don’t lie and a lot of people like to make excuses, especially when it comes to loosing weight.

Nothing against a physical I agree they are a good idea, mostly to make a relationship with a trusted doctor.

But there’s a huge gap between getting a physical and refusing to go to the doctor when there is an issue. That’s 2 separate things honestly. By the time you are 30 if something is bothering you for more than a couple days you should know dang well that you should see a doc about it, but because of your maturity and because you know your own body by then.

I will, thanks. My sister had thyroid cancer, and had her's removed. So it runs in the family.

Mine was 26 when they caught it. They were amazed that I didn't show any symptoms. It took a year of adjusting doses of levothroid to get my levels normal. I was 5' 11" and 190 lbs. 20 years later I weight 180 by choice. But I still drink my beer every day!

Sorry, I got that wrong but when people tend to blame weight issues on thyroid problems it’s usually not a person problem and not a thyroid problem.

But did you get a flu shot?
10,000-20,000 coming from South and Central America, unvaccinated for anything and carrying previously under control and unknown diseases, and you worry about 1 failing health 30 year old getting a 20% effective flu vaccine.
