My dad was county SAF and made this mistake one time.
He had a little shaving bag he always took with him on trips, one time flying to San Fran they found three 22 Long Rifle Bullets in the bottom of it.
Knowing him he probably didn't even realize it was illegal.

How f'ing hard is it NOT to take spare ammo with you on vaca? I've traveled all over the world, visited dozens of countries and never one even came close to having accounted for ammo in my personal luggage. It's just basic common sense to got through every pocket, etc., before going through any type of inspection checkpoint, even when traveling CONUS.
I get what you're saying 100% but for some strange reason there is a segment of the firearm owners world that believes the 2nd Amendment precludes the use of common sense. And will defend that belief viscerally.

That hates America, and that think she's "persecuted " here.
She now knows what real prosecution feels like.
Her goofy arse is lucky she was the political flavor of the month and hopefully she fades back into irrelevance.

Of course you find that “interesting”. Of course you do. I’ll save you the trouble and show you a pic of one of the ammo criminals
It took me several seconds of staring at your post before I realized that you thought I was accusing you of being a racist, when the reality was that I was accusing you of being staggering hypocrites when it comes to narcotics.

I have seen ZERO people use the 2A as an argument for this. Most people have agreed that it's dumb and a penalty should be assessed. But 12 years minimum? That's the story. The disproportional nature of the penalty.
Fine them? Fine. A night or two in jail? Cool. Ban them from the country? OK.
12 years? LOL
Bear in mind that these people were LEAVING the country and had not committed any violence or used these bullets.

Loose ammo small; luggage big. It's not impossible.

I’m not avoiding it based on virtue. It’s fear of bogus wrongful imprisonment.

the funniest part of this story is Turks and Caicos acting like they have sovereignty over anything. you’re a fricking play pretty for Americans and Brits. shut the frick up and do what we tell you to do

Imprisonment for what? Do you routinely carry ammunition on international vacations?

This is the attitude that makes some countries so hard to crack the veneer of their people when you are an American.

A lot of people travel and hunt out of town. All it takes is putting a shell in a pants pocket, putting said pants in bag, in transit home it shakes out into your bag. People who hunt often or shoot often and travel every weekend to hunt can easily make this mistake.
No matter what your thoughts are on this situation, I bet this happening will make others be much more thorough checking their bags before flying.

I don’t really care. there are no native people on these islands, and the ones who live there would starve to death without American dollars. if we all acted a little more pragmatically, things might improve. this isn’t a disney movie

Just don’t go there. No one will miss you. You’re much less important than you think you are.

haha, Uncle Sam paid for most of my travel.
