Dear Friend,
Thank you for writing this:
You share much wisdom and beauty. If you could share that photo, I would be honored. One thing I was adamant about during my time as a conductor was appropriate dress. Now very few conductors wear coat, tie, and a conductor’s hat. These items give neatness to the car but also authority and gravity to the driver and his task. I wish more conductors dressed for the job.
Yours,
TulaneLSU
Thank you for writing this:
quote:
My grandmother lived with my family from before I was born until her death. Her father had a small sugar cane plantation and was in the civil war. One of her brothers came of age and left the plantation, made it to New Orleans and became a street car conductor. She had a picture of him on her dresser in his conductor uniform with hat. He looked like a kind man. I always tell people, if anyone is in heaven, it’s my grandmother. I have that picture now. One of my favorites. My grandmother was always a hard worker. From early on had a small brownie camera. I have many wonderful pictures that she had taken. In my opinion, old family pictures are your.most valuable possession. Thanks for the street car stories.

Friend,
If you haven’t read the story on TulaneLSU’s Ezekiel 24 chicken soup recipe, there is a segment on one of great, great Grandfather’s trips to the Tally Ho.
NOLA Hamburger and Seafood has a great sign, but not quite good enough for the Top 10 here. See TulaneLSU ‘s Top 10 nighttime signs of Veterans. Scroll to number four.
No, I am not Ignatius. I didn’t even find that book that good in the ninth grade when I read it. I’m much more influenced by the words of Kierkegaard, George Washington Cable, and
Those who try to insult me with comparisons to that character really are showing lassitude of insight and lack of drawing apt comparisons. I could see, perhaps, a jab about me being similar to Binx Bolling, but this is by chance and residual influence from an early age, not by intention or purpose.
I will start work on my Top 10 streetcar stories at once. There are so many, the editing of the top ten could take months if not years.
The Poorboy Tours bus is still being repaired. When it is ready y’all will be the first to know.
The Pearl is a great sign, yes, which was why I included two pictures of Kolb’s — the second photo includes it. I once at there in 2009. It was terrible.
If you are selected to the student EMS group at Tulane, you are golden for med school. Every student in my cohort was accepted on their first pass, many at Tulane.
Columns has a great facade, but the sign is lacking.
Uncle fills me in on the details I do not know. Plus I read his archived Times Picayunes, which he has all the way back to 1910. It’s a great collection.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Did you ever have occasion to visit Marquez Brothers restaurant that was located in front of the Tally Ho Club (nearer to US Hwy 90)? My adolescent self enjoyed the fare. I’m doubtful I would appreciate the dining experience there as much now with an exception made to be able to people watch there had it survived to the present time. Sadly, it would seem God did not want it to continue onward.
Thanks to you for the link to your Chicken Soup for the OT Souls recipe. It looks to be a straightforward process of producing an honorable soup. I’m more a fan of the former First Lord of the Admiralty Leake than am I of leek the vegetable, therefore I will substitute some combination of the holy trinity to taste but otherwise follow your procedure.
I appreciate your indulgence in my minor deviation from your recipe.
Best regards,
EseFüt

Dear Friend,
No, I have never been out to the Tally Ho Club. There are too many bridges which separate me from it and I nor anyone in my family is a member now, as Grandfather gave up the family’s membership. Should I ever want to join it probably would not be that hard to do. For the time, I have no want for hunting or fishing.
Please do share the results of your deviant recipe, either in photos or words or both.
Are there even ten playgrounds in all of Kenner? Wentwood, Lincoln, Susan Park, Westgate, Morgan (Lawson), Woodlake, Greenlawn, Galatas, and Muss Bertolino. Is Highway Park still open or did I miss one? If it is that would round out a Top 10. I would need to get out and take photos, but that would need to wait.

As much as I love the columns hotel, in no fan of the new ownership. They close off the tea room at weird hours now it seems and they shoved a bunch of tvs in the bar rooms. Totally kills the atmosphere. I don’t go to the columns to watch whatever shows they have on there. I go to enjoy the dimly lit atmosphere and get away from all of that bullshite and enjoy the company of my friends and strangers while having a good drink.

Friend,
Can you share with us some stories about your uncle? Why was he chosen to share his name with a park?

Friends,
Would anyone like to join me today for a streetcar ride? I plan on a little journey. RTA is requiring face coverings. I recommend the silk scarves from Rubenstein’s. The pocket squares just aren’t big enough to cover the entire daze unfortunately.
