Well this is America. I'd rather get TB from an American citizen who pays taxes than some smelly illegal.

We have had several cases of TB over last couple years after I had only seen a couple cases my entire career before that.

Every patient has a hispanic name.

Are these people who tested positive for latent TB? There's a big difference. People can have the bacteria but not be infectious. All it takes is being around someone who has TB. You would likely never know you had it unless tested. There's only a 5-10% chance of becoming contagious.

So what's the correlation? Why would Mexicans have a higher incident and infection rate than Americans, specifically for TB?

I’m guessing he’s implying that Mexicans, and Latin Americans in general, are not vaccinated at near the rate Americans are, leading to emergence of previously eradicated diseases. Just a guess

As a respiratory therapist, we did PPDs.. Test to determine is someone was exposed to TB. After Katrina, it was amazing to see the positive induration PPDs we saw on the migrant workers in the city. It was crazy. If we were lucky, they would come back 48 hours later to have them read, some were over 100mm in diameter which is huge...

Those numbers are not surprising...

Most Americans have not received a TB vaccination.

Not anymore, no they are not. But do you know why? Because we eliminated it through herd immunity with vaccinations.

I don't think the American vaccination percentage is that high though, not for TB.
