Trying to help strangers

Driving this morning and I see a car with hood up and guy flagging me down. I pull over just past the car and look in rear view mirror I see another guy get out of passenger side really fast. The guy that was waving at me by the hood bends down and picks up a small gas can and is walking towards my car. The passenger is running past him towards me. Something didn’t feel right so I sped off. Thinking back, if they needed gas, why was the hood up? Did I avoid being carjacked or worse?

Guy running past was kidnapped by the guy who flagged you down and now he’s dead and it’s ur fault.

There's a difference between strangers in need of help and dangers to your health. Learn to spot them

Pickin' up strangers, let me tell you about the dangers
You never know what they're out to get from you
You never know what they're gonna try to do

You never know what they're gonna try to do

This is the only thing I’m pulling out of in Baton Rouge on the side of the road.

I'll defer to Scott Adams for this particular question

On interstates in some cities, you can assuage your guilt by calling 911 and asking them to send the motorist assistance patrol (MAP) to help them. Note the mile marker nearest the breakdown.
MAP used to have their own dispatcher number here, but a driver told me that now you should call 911.

Yeah except in shithole BR they murder the MAP truck drivers.
I really hate that it’s this way, I’ve stopped several times in my life and never been in trouble for it, but the rational answer is frick ‘em. You see even the slightest hint of anything weird, drive off with no remorse. It’s not your duty to die in the name of trying to be better than a broken failed shithole of a society you had no part in making.

Father talked about this in his sermon this evening. It hit home for sure.

You just missed out on the best double butt sex of your life.

Avoidance is the best method of self defense. It works 100% of the time.

Years ago a friend of mine was on his way to work, between 4 and 5 am. He sees a car on the side of the road, about 25 yards ahead, he sees a guy walking with a gas can. He pulls over, the guy hops in puts a gun in his side. Tells him to turn around, they go back to the car, another guy comes out the bushes. When the first guy opens the door, he steps out the car, my buddy hits the gas. He’s shot in the side pulling off, got to a fire station, from there, the hospital. He lived, they never caught to two guys.

Just had this conversation with a new driver in my household this evening.
Head on a swivel, and make your decision before you need to make your decision. Every single time you leave my house. If they confront you, your vehicle is a weapon. Run their arse over, and we'll deal with it with a jury of 12.
Absolute shame that's what we've come to in this day in the world. I'm telling my teenage driver to be prepared to defend themselves from pre-teen carjackers who have no understanding of human life, by running their arse over if they are threatened.
Take a second and think about it. I'm explaining this to a 16 year old kid who has been trained to handle a gun, how to beat an aggressor to submission physically, and how to drive defensively to avoid aggressors on the road. I had none of these concerns at that age - that's the paradigm that we've all witnessed.
Our world is full of punks who have no understanding of ethics or morals, because they are raised in a world of misery that is not based in any sort a normal family function.
Who is the hunter and the hunted?

It's sad that we can no longer help each other out, without fearing for our lives. I 100% think you made the right decision.
How many times are people in a situation with someone like Dahmer, Gacy or Manson and there is that small, nagging uneasiness, but you don't want to be rude to the guy? The "family" that ran out of gas? The hitchhiker?
You did the right thing in being the good Samaritan. But you also listened to your instinct, which likely kept you alive.

*LSP from any cell phone will connect you with Louisiana state Police on a non emergency number. They can send assistance.

Everyone has a cell phone. They can call for help. Sounds suspicious.
