Any ideas?

He might be able to use his knowledge and experience working for an electrical supply house or in procurement for an electrical construction firm. Or perhaps find a home in an estimating capacity. There are a lot of things you can do. Just depends on what he wants to do and feels comfortable with.

Pretty clear you have a very limited view of the electrical world

I'm all good. Just don't want this young person being steered in the wrong direction. I'm an electrical professional and bad advice like that could derail someone's more suitable career and put people in unnecessary danger.

Go into just a little more detail and ABC network may make a TV series out of it...

In the electrical world he would need to speak up when he doesn't know what he's doing to ask questions. Thankfully there isn't a lot of live work being done these days but he needs to speak up in any trade job to ensure he is doing things correctly.

Most autistic (Aspergers is classified as autism now) kids don’t have a problem asking for clarity. Sounds like OPs kid wouldn’t either.

You say you can’t go on an interview with him, but you can sure as heck grease the skids beforehand for him. If you tell a prospective employer exactly what you just put in your post, the employer will be all ears. I mean, a guy who keeps to himself, is a perfectionist, doesn’t drink or take drugs, and is highly qualified? Sheeeiiitttt…sign me up.

Sounds like you either need to find someone with an “in” or contact these jobs he’s applying for preemptively to have a quick chat before any interview is scheduled. Leaving him to find something on his own is asking him to excel while dealing with his biggest weakness. Dude needs a hand from the good people around him.

If he were in S MS I could get him hired tmrw. A guy here locally same deal & terminates all day. Can't use slang with him. Got to be technical, but he's great.

You need to get on the phone, call & explain the situation. Someone will give him a shot. Also seems like a bit of discrimination.

Electricians are used a lot in the data processing building. A lot of running cable tray and pulling wire. So not in a petrochemical setting which might be too much for him to handle.

How is it discrimination when the interviewer has no clue? Probably just thinks he is rude

Yeah I get that. Sometimes it's not obvious when the need to ask arises.

Why not?

All jokes aside, this is good advice:

quote:

Honest and best answer you’ll get.

1. Find Homebuilder assoc in your parish/county
2. Go through their directory for “electricians”
3. Call a half dozen on Monday, explain your situation
4. Get their emails, and email them his resume
5. State that you’re happy to come along for any interviews if they’d like

Your nephew will have a new job in next 2 weeks.

The Workforce Commission in Baton Rouge got my son who has Asperger's a job coach. She was a huge help setting up interviews and practicing how to do interviews. She went with him to his interviews and followed his progress with his first job. That was about 8 years or so ago. I don't know how they do things now.

Search for small.places that hire people to build PLC cabinets.

They have to be neat an tidy and are repetitive.

Someone with aspergers would likely thrive building out industrial cabinets
