Why pretend you don’t know? Cheesy and insufferable as it may be musically, it points out that those who espouse violence and theft as a means of social change only do so in an environment largely devoid of meaningful consequence. Because they are cowards. But you knew that.

I moved from a big city to a small town once and I learned this lesson pretty quick. You have to watch what you do and say because everybody knows each other; everybody is someone's cousin, sister, etc. In a big city you can hook up, talk shite and act a fool all you want because you're probably never going to see those people again. In a small town that stuff will boomerang on you fast. That's why people in small towns are friendlier and have better manners - it's a necessity in a social bubble.

I know the song is aimed at a narrower concept but the broader point is true as well.
