It’s not a small town if it has a Walmart and no dollar general

You didn't need to proclaim your sneering hatred of people outside of major cities, we already knew.

Think it’s about uneducated people not wanting educated people coming into their world and offer ways of progress. I’m stupid and want to stay stupid. I live in a small town where everyone else is stupid. Let us keep hiding and raising our kids poorly.

How'd you come up with that? I read the lyrics, saw nothing of the sort.

Tell us about the ways of progress in NO, Memphis, Detroit, St. Louis, Portland, Seattle, etc.

Yes, we get it. You hate people in small towns.

The one I grew up in is now majority Black. Do you hate that small town too?

It is OK. I already know the answer.

What “progress” are you referring to that the song rejects?

Why pretend you don’t know? Cheesy and insufferable as it may be musically, it points out that those who espouse violence and theft as a means of social change only do so in an environment largely devoid of meaningful consequence. Because they are cowards. But you knew that.

I prefer Okie from Muskogee by Merle to be honest, and it sounds more like rock than country, but besides all that, if you do’t know what the song is referring to, then you must be dumb as a bucket of rocks.

I moved from a big city to a small town once and I learned this lesson pretty quick. You have to watch what you do and say because everybody knows each other; everybody is someone's cousin, sister, etc. In a big city you can hook up, talk shite and act a fool all you want because you're probably never going to see those people again. In a small town that stuff will boomerang on you fast. That's why people in small towns are friendlier and have better manners - it's a necessity in a social bubble.

I know the song is aimed at a narrower concept but the broader point is true as well.
