BATON ROUGE – In an unusual letter sent via certified mail to WBRZ Friday, Judge Trudy White apologized for the use of a character in a 2014 re-election campaign video that many people interpreted as Judge White pandering to criminals with a message she'd help them get off.
The video, first reported by WBRZ in October 2014 HERE, showed White with Jomo Jenkins inside a courtroom wearing a prison orange outfit.
In the video, Jenkins said: “ I'm down here at the 19th (Judicial District Court). But check this out: I ain't gonna be here for that long, because Judge Trudy White is fixing to send me back home. So if you want somebody to show you some love, vote for Trudy White on November the 4th.”
The video, which was posted on the internet, was later removed.
Friday, White wrote to WBRZ: “I am writing this letter to apologize to the citizens of Louisiana, and especially the citizens of the Greater Baton Rouge area, for the video...”
White called the video embarrassing and acknowledged the questionable lines in the script.
“I understand how… 'show you some love' might be interpreted to mean that I would treat defendants in criminal cases with leniency.”
“I regret having made the video and, again, I am sorry for any damage its released caused.”
White said she understood some people may have lost respect for the judiciary and questioned its integrity and impartiality after the video.
“… I have learned from this experience… [White will make sure] such a situation never happens again.”
White is a criminal and civil judge at the 19th Judicial District Court in downtown Baton Rouge.
The letter is her first public statement since taking an extended, quiet leave from the bench. She recently returned from leave to preside over cases.

Her 2014 campaign slogan was: VOTE FOR ME AND YOUR BLACK arse WILL GO FREE!

I know a lot of people said "health issues" when she left but her bizarre behavior and now this AA style apology smacks of substance abuse issues. I have said that all along but not many people agreed. They are VERY quiet about this around the court house which is extremely odd. They usually gossip with the best of them.

Electing judges just seems like a bad idea

Well, she's certainly living up to her campaign promises however implied they may be.

Didn't she also have an issue where she was funneling folks she sentenced to a company that derived money from providing services associated with her sentencing?
A company which donated heavily back to her, and she may have had some familial interest in?

Only in this state can someone too incompetent to be a staff lawyer for the state be elected judge.

Yeah, but it's racist to question her about it

Hard to vote against a winner like that.

Trudy White should not be allowed to be a judge. Or anything dealing with the legal system.
I know for a fact she takes bribes. Also, if you're of a certain race, she will help out in whatever way she can.
It's a shame fair judges like Erwin catch shite for made up situations. However, this bitch is praised by certain people when she is as crooked as they come.

This is a symptom of a larger problem which is the fact that judges should not be elected.

I'll just say this...I got arrested years ago bc I was fricking around with drugs.
The things people got dropped were insane. Also, a few guys from around the hoods "Dixie" and "oak town" said she was friends with a lot of their parents and would go to their parent's houses to collect "things" in exchange for certain "benefits".
I thought it was bullshite, until I saw their dockets and saw the charges and what was dropped. Once you hear enough, you realize it's not someone bullshitting you. Not to mention, why would they lie about charges being reduced or dropped.
