re: Truck prices are ridiculous

I drive a 2006 Yukon SLT 5.3L with 290K miles. Drives like a champ and the interior has held up better than expected. My dad and I can perform most repairs which reduces the "breakdown anxiety" some people feel with older vehicles. I'll drive the Yukon until 310-320K miles and then look for something smaller as my kids are about to leave for college.
This weekend some guy backed into the side of my Yukon while I was in a parking lot. Left a small 4" scratch on the bottom the driver's side rear door but nothing too bad. His car (Passat) had a bigger mark. We shook hands and carried on. If I was in a new $60K truck, I probably would have sh*t myself.

Just buy a used F250. I'm sure they are super cheap with oil being so low.

For some, sure. However, for many people their vehicle is more than just an A to B people mover. And if the vehicle that suits my needs happens to be a truck, what's wrong with it having all the creature comforts of a luxury vehicle?
Leather heated/cooled seats, sunroof, HID headlights, Navi, etc. doesn't somehow make it not a "real" truck.

Actually price usually goes up when diesel goes down because demand for them is higher

I'm in the market for a new vehicle (for my wife), and we've been looking into Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc...
You should see the faces of "small town folk" when we tell them the brands that we are shopping; which is absurd because most them drive Yukons and crew cab trucks that are just as expensive, if not more expensive than luxury brands.

This is why the Baw Edition F250 I drive is a 2003 model.

Agree.
I paid 60 in 2011.
Truck retails for 45 today.
Not a bad loss for 5 years.

I saw that Ford and Chevy were offering 10-12k off their 2015 leftover trucks and thought about buying one.....but they were still $33,000 for a basic 4 door/4wd. Crazy

Damn were they not running rebates in 2011?

58K gets you an absurdly nice car
This is true.
I just bought a fully loaded, brand new, top of the line Subaru Outback with the bigger engine and every bell and whistle for 40k. Its incredibly nice. You can get Mercedes/Audis/BMW for around that too. And my buddy just bought a used Tahoe for 44k.
The fully loaded Tahoe's are around 60k aren't they? That's absurd.

New yukons start at like 48k
. It's ridiculous.
I'm so glad my parents gave me a good car in high school.

I bought in August of 2011. The '12s were already out.
The truck stickered for 65, IIRC.
Banner had to get it from north Mississippi or some such crap, so I couldn't really get a awesome deal.

Tahoes are really over priced. I can get a lot nicer vehicle for the same or less
My wife has one now but her next vehicle will be something different

the point is that you used to be able to buy the higher end truck without it being so over the top luxurious that you can't mess it up. my yukon has every option available, but i never felt like it was too nice to get dirty

There is no way on god's green earth someone will pay you $45k for a 5 year old truck. Unless you have like 2,000 miles of course.

I just went on Craigslist and looked around. The market seems to be overflowing with F-250s right now. You can get one for pennies on the dollar vs what they cost new.
It would be pretty unwise to buy a new one right now.
