Yeah, the south bound has the older aluminum pipe rails. Still had to be going a very high rate of speed and for that distance.

Causeway not the bridge to screw with high speeds, under influence, or sleep deprivation.

Yes we do.

And we all know that if you have a traffic tip you need to call 260-INFO.

Just saw some video... much less than a quarter mile of rail.

You want to believe it was just an unfortunate accident such as a blow out or an over correction and not something that could have been avoided.

That’s a shitty wake up call! But yeah, driving with nothing to see but water in all directions could definitely lull you to sleep.

I'm back at home they said traffic through Slidell was awful.

Sad situation. But too many people drive that bridge without a proper level of caution and alertness.

The law of averages tells me you would think that bridge would have the same number of drunks, speeders, etc, going northbound as those going southbound.

Yet, pretty much every single overboard crash takes place on the southbound lanes.

I know people want to complain about the tolls, but the reality is that the side railings on the southbound (old) side are too low and the material is too weak.

People drive drunk and speed on the twin spans and on the bonnet carre all the damn time and you don't see these overboard situations.

I'm not one to usually defend the causeway commission - they are generally a cesspool of patronage. And I think their plan for the pull-over shoulders is kind of a waste. But the plan to rebuild the barriers on the southbound side is very much needed.
