I'm work in the GOM and I do not have a F250 with truck nuts or yeti stickers of any kind. I make an ok living and live in regular house with my wife and kids.

Let the shite crash. Maybe gladhand politicians will stop letting Houston-based oil companies pimp our gulf and coastline for a back door payoff. Let it burn to the ground and rebuild something stronger; Tech, trade, etc
Because nothing nurtures budding industries like destitution!
The oil field isn't standing in anyone's way when it comes to diversifying the economy of LA, in fact some might consider it an asset to have a thriving, wealthy, spendy industry in your own backyard as you try to launch a tech startup. Big Oil can pay the bills while you reinvest the money to develop a product that isn't tied to oil and sell it world wide, if you want. Assuming you have actual ideas for this "diversification" and not just a bunch of garbage you heard on NPR.

Ah the good ole “Partsfinder” did a year on the old girl. She wasn’t pretty, but got the job done. Good times.

Well I commend you. However many of your brethren live far beyond those means.

All you guys talking shite about the oilfield and the people who work in it.... do you not realize Louisiana and every business in it lives and dies off of the oilfield industry . College ain't gonna matter jack if the oilfield is dead . The company you work for is gonna be suffering just like everyone else . So you're screwed just like the rest of us , come on down off of that high horse fellas cause we are all in the same boat lol
Yeah you are not correct. I'm all for a healthy oil patch but my business does not live or die with the industry nor is it or am I suffering because of it. Not on a high horse just happen to be diverse enough-as are a lot of companies in this state, that this does not affect actually either way other than say at the gas pump.

There are going to be more write downs and liquidations coming. They are still building OSVs on the gulf coast with no jobs for them.

Why on Earth do LA people find it amusing when the oil business has a downturn?

Well they keep pumping out Jones act qualified tankers as fast as they can. All the baws just need to take that AB cert over to the union hall

Pipeline welding bae.
$44hr wage
$16hr wage for vehicle usage
$125 per diem 7 days a week (vs 5)
60-70hr work week
Not a bad gig for a 23 yr old who didn't want to go to college to get a degree.
As long as there are pipes in the ground, his services will be needed.

Lies. All lies. Well maybe your wife still knows Jody.

This. Not to mention the fact that the petroleum industry and its non-degree jobs offers a career for those who don’t or can’t go to college. I agree this state is woefully behind on economic diversity, but what do you think all these folks will do without those oilfield opportunities? Not everyone can or should have a degree. The oilfield gives them a place to work- just like the industrial plants.
You’d have to be incredibly short-sighted and butt hurt to celebrate the loss of blue collar jobs. Especially when it seems your simply jealous of the money those guys are making. Regardless of how they spend it.

I'm not hating on the oilfield. Just the people that scoff at getting degree over going work in the oil patch.
You do realize that there are a whole lot of people that work in the oilfield that have college degrees huh?
