Notably, several models ramp Gonzalo up to a Cat. 2. That would potentially give him a better chance of surviving the dry air he will have to contend with in coming days.
Mark Sudduth at Hurricane Tracker doesn't think it survives long after crossing the islands. We will see. The fact that it is so small helps it right now to keep from dragging in that dry Saharan air.

in Levi's video... he says Douglas will run into some cold water and should weaken (perhaps significantly) before getting to Hawaii
That seems to be what everyone is thinking.

It was pretty rough today. This happened right in front of us:

Damn that’s awful.
Dude it was terrible. We saw them grab the kid and everyone thought it was ok until they kept searching. It became pretty clear soon after things weren’t ok.

Yeah. That’s horrible. Very sad. We did not go into the water but the water came to us.

LoL, we're about to get to the letter "H" in tropical names and it's still July.
Would anyone would have expected differently about 2020?

Mark is probably right. The dry air will probably be particularly harsh on Gonzalo given Gonzalo’s small size.
p.s. I’m glad someone else here follows Mark. He’s great at what he does.

Please stay away for south/southwest Louisiana. Rice harvest is just getting going — we really need good weather.

Why does Gonzalo weaken from hurricane to tropical storm as it passes south of Puerto Rico?

I am getting some good spinoffs in Gulf Coast Alabama from #8. It rains hard for about 15 minutes then the sun comes out until the next one hits.
