rds dc, where do you find the GOES 16 image of the Gulf? I can only find images of CONUS and US regions.

I'm guessing because there is non shear to break it up

I am trying to learn this stuff, I find it really interesting.

For the storm, it is bad. Means it is getting sheared and likely taking in some drier air. When a storm get's stronger, it has convection around it's center. With the convection being pushed away by the wind shear, the storm is not getting stronger, or is at least very slow at strengthening.

I'm not a weather expert in the slightest, but I love reading these and appreciate the insight from those who know their stuff.

With that in mind, is anyone else in Baton Rouge starting to get a really bad feeling in their stomach about this? I know we are all dealing with some level of PTSD after August, but it seems like this thing came out of nowhere. Most everyone is blowing it off and saying there's no way BR will flood again. That alone worries me since we weren't exactly supposed to have an epic flood 10 months ago, either. Appears all Cindy has done is dump rain and strengthen. I'm not worried about the tornados, but rather just the rain dump since it's already so wet out where we live.

ETA: someone just hold me and say everything is going to be alright.

No. Quite the opposite. Baton Rouge will get 6-7 inches tops.

The August flood gave us 24"+ of rain in 48-60 hours. This is going to give us 8-10" in 72 hours. This is also coming in a more wave like pattern so there may be breaks that allow for drainage. We didn't get those breaks in August.

Why would that be bad for us?

For people it is good, it is bad for the storm itself.

Yea wasn't there a thread warning us in August about a week out before the flooding occurred? We knew that was going to dump a tremendous amount of water in a short period of time.

Here, it seems all the smart guys are keeping their cool unlike last year.

There is no way you can say that for sure you'll get 8-10 inches over 72 hours. For all you know this system could stall and skull frick someone badly. It's currently stalled but that was projected. Weather is way too dynamic to accurately predict with the best experts or computer models. I would hope by now all in this thread know that. If you've lived in Louisiana most of your life you should or come see me to get slapped.

That's why they put "estimates" out there or "cone of errors" that just so happen to change every single advisory. It only becomes more accurate as it gets closer to land because margin of error gets less. Overnight last season you got a freaking category 5 hurricane that was worse than Katrina that NOBODY predicted. It happened all at once.

6-7 inches is a lot of rain, but not enough to cause massive flooding.

LSU shouldn't even cancel any classes. They might, but they shouldn't.
