Defense has rested after five witnesses. Holy shite. They did nothing.

Closing arguments tomorrow.

And 4 of them got obliterated, including one getting pretty specifically impeached.

Not a single one testified that they believed Karmelo was in any danger of great bodily harm or anything like it

I honestly don't think the verdict is going to cause a significant backlash. Even on reddit of all places, nearly everyone who has heard about this case thinks it's murder. There are a few extremists that we've heard about around the courtroom but I think they're a very loud minority (no pun intended)

The other has a really bad day and really fricked up.

Incredible way to describe murdering someone.

and although I’ve never stabbed a human. It isn’t like the movies when they stab someone. If you want to penetrate and kill you can only do that thru a significant amount of force and violence. This dude showed up with a knife and enough rage to penetrate the chest.

Guess we differ on that. I would rather a career thief with 8 priors get life over a 17 year old with no prior that made a horrible mistake.
yes, we differ greatly.

i'm seeing a lot of pro-Karmelo posts getting force fed to me on Facebook and IG, and the comments are almost all in support of him, but i'm not convinced that those arent all bot accounts from overseas trying to destablize the country.

even the usual lib mouthpieces in the MSM have largely stayed clear of this case bc they know it's preposterous to make it a race thing.

Interesting - wonder what the prolonged discussion was around then?

Taking a knife to a track meet then refusing to leave an area when asked then telling someone to touch you and they will find out, and then concealing the knife, and then swinging it so hard they penetrate bone and kill them

"mistake"

I've stabbed a deer and to pierce the chest bone of a human and hit the heart, that had to be a very strong stab. Not like he accidently knicked an artery on a flesh wound.

They can try but I don’t think counsel had much to work with.

I'd be willing to bet that this is one of those moments where the defense attorney repeatedly told the family to cop a plea and they "knew better"

Did they offer a plea?

Prosecutors probably had serious confidence in their case, which clearly played out in the courtroom.

I’d agree, but I also wonder what the DA was offering even if a plea was on the table.

That's not manslaughter. That is premeditated murder.
you left out a key point; it was a folding knife and he had already unfolded it and was holding it in his hand in his pocket ready to stab with it.

Don't know, but prosecutors will usually offer something, even if its very harsh, to have some level of mitigation against retarded juries

I’m thinking the defense realized they needed to stop digging the hole deeper by calling more witnesses. Short of someone producing evidence that Austin Metcalf was armed, continuing to call witnesses that reinforce your client is a POS murdering a-hole is asinine.

Probably. They'll now rely on character witnesses at sentencing. I'm sure there will be a ton of "He's such a good kid" stories from his friends and family.
