Wasn’t karmelo not even supposed to be at the track meet? Wasn’t he suspended or something?

Sitting in the jury box? For what purpose?

Ok, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

It’s been widely settled at this point through reporting on hours of testimony that they did not know each other nor met each other prior to the killing.

This thread has been the most clear, and level headed, conversation that I’ve found online about this trial. You seem like you’re more cut out for twitter and Facebook comment sections where you can find anyone who will tell you what you want to believe about this case.

I'm one of the only lawyers in this thread, champ. I specifically stated in my post that I recalled that being reported when the case first broke but wasn't sure if it was still the case. That's where you come in because I have work to do and am not going to go through hours of testimony like you will. Appreciate you!

I also clarified for you that his intent formed when he reached into the bag per the police report and started to goad Austin into touching him so he could stab him in the chest.

But that's too crazy for you to understand, got it. Maybe Reddit better suits you?

Why would his lawyer even allow him to do that?

TBH it sounds like an attempt to cause a mistrial.

I also read on twitter from people familiar with the track scene in various parts of texas (but it's probably pretty universal) that Anthony was clearly casing the tent to steal shite. It apparently happens all the time.

Not trying to be a jerk, but with this trial in particular, I wouldn’t believe much of anything from social media accounts on either side.

Most of the talking points that people are screaming at each other over on twitter have been completely manufactured.

I don't know if he was casing it to steal or was stealing, but this is a real problem at big track meets. They have pretty strict rules about who can be in the tents for this reason (and others). People leave their belongings unattended for long periods of time.

Austin gets to sleep in the dirt for eternity and Karmelo gets released on good time in what, 10-15 years before he's 30?

Would be a travesty

Yes under Texas case law and statute i think it's 8.31 and 8.32 provocation nullifies self defense.

You can't say "hit me bitch" and then kill someone because they hit you...basically.

man frick that line of thinking. he stabbed a person to death over a situation that he caused. not only that, he knew better than to bring a knife to a school event. thats common sense. he deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail.

If things are going so well for the prosecution, and they feel confident, which seems to be the vibe coming from the courthouse, then I’m not sure why they would agree to a deal, unless they feel there’s a juror or two who wouldn’t convict a young person Karmelo’s age.

If they get a deal to put him in jail something like minimum 30 years, but parole after that, I think both sides might take it.

I want the guy in jail for life. He can be tried as adult in Texas. You stab someone in the chest and kill them for no justified reason, you should die in jail.

You don't have the instinct to stab someone over something like this in the heart and not be likely to reoffend.

Most of us don't have that monster and lack of impulse control inside of us. If you do, you're likely to reoffend.

I think it’s pretty wild though, and would be nearly impossible to convince a jury, that a kid with no arrest record and a 3.7 gpa went to a track meet in the rain at 10:30am to hunt a victim to kill in front of hundreds of people.

Premeditation does not require a lengthy timeline.. we know for a fact that he refused at 15 reasonable requests to leave the team’s tent. You can clearly define those events and his refusal as a verbal disagreement which under Texas state law does not justify deadly force. Secondly, at some point during this verbal disagreement, he chose to unfold a bladed weapon and arm himself using his backpack to conceal his actions. That legally made him the aggressor in the situation. Thirdly, armed with a concealed weapon he further escalated the situation and began baiting/ provoking the victim to do something and see what happens. He wanted the victim to touch him so that he had the pretext to attack back.

Bottom line is simple. You don’t unfold and arm yourself with a concealed knife and then continually dare someone to touch you and find out unless you have made the conscious decision (premeditated) that you are going to stab and kill anyone who tries you. That’s cold blooded, premeditated murder. The idea that he needed to wake up and plan to leave his house with the intent to kill is stupid.

So the judge will ask him to leave and give him reason to stab him “in self defense”.
