It's a culture thing... Escaping black culture is looked down upon in certain black communities, they don't want to be look at as "Uncle Toms".

The truth no one says out loud, is that outside of waterfront, mountain property etc, the entire real estate market in this country is based on how far can I be away from the Karmelos of the world without having a 3 hour drive to work.

It’s crazy to think about. But I was guilty of this when I bought my house.

This is the new American Dream.

It’s no longer just the belief that anyone can improve their life through hard work, personal responsibility, and determination.

Now, for a lot of families it is work hard, take responsibility, make good decisions, have quite a bit of luck along the way .... and hopefully earn enough money to put as much distance as possible between your family and the violence and disorder everyone is told not to notice.

And even then, the payoff is temporary. Ignore the rot long enough, and today’s safe, peaceful neighborhood becomes tomorrow’s place people are trying to get away from.

Defense witness this morning

quote:

Witness: Karmelo Anthony was distraught after stabbing, "'I told him not to touch me'"
After seeing Austin Metcalf with the stab wound, the witness said he saw Karmelo lightly jogging to another part of the bleachers.

Defense: "Did you see him when he stopped?"

Witness: "He is crying and there was a coach kind of comforting him." "I'd say distraught is the best way to describe it."

Defense: "Did it look like a put on?"

Witness: "I'd say everything going on was very, very real."

Defense: "You could hear him crying?"

Witness: "Yes sir, I heard him saying, 'I told him not to touch me.'"

Defense: "How was he, distraught?"

Witness: "Yes very distraught."

I wonder if the defense knows how bad this is for them

State is cross-examining the teen. Prosecutor says the teen had WRONGLY told the police that kids had surrounded Karmelo Anthony PRIOR to the sabbing...leading up to the stabbing.
"Now you know you're wrong after seeing the video back in April,' the prosecutor says to the teen.

They are replaying the video of the stabbing for the teen to review.
For context, this is the ONLY witness so far to claim that kids had ganged up on Anthony
Anthony's claim is that he was outnumbered by bigger kids and that's why he felt in danger for his life.
After teen watches the video, the prosecutor says to the teen, "You were wrong, right?"
Teen: "I'm not sure. I couldn't tell what happened in the video."

I think they are at the “frick it” stage.

They don’t have a leg to stand on so their best chance is to muddy the water and hope for a hung jury.

I couldn’t be a prosecutor in this case. I would just absolutely bitch slap that “teen” for saying that. Evidence is right in your face that you lied and you still wanna play games? Just lock that kid up too before he kills someone.

This last witness is clearly a "sympathy" witness because he is testifying that Anthony was crying and distraught afterwards

Pretty sure touching someone does not warrant taking their life as a response.

What he didn’t say, “I thought he was going to kill me and I had no other choice”

Prosecution presses witness on inconsistencies in his testimony
On cross-examination, a prosecutor confronted the witness over how his testimony did not line up with prior statements made to police and the prosecution.

Prosecution: "You had a few things wrong when we talked, is that right?"

Witness: "Yes sir."

Prosecution: "Your initial statement to police that you saw Karmelo Anthony surrounded had to be after the stabbing?"

Witness: "Yes."

Prosecution: "You had a story in your head when we visited, correct?"

Witness: "Yes."

Prosecution: "And when you saw the video, your eyes were opened to what actually happened, is that right?"

Witness: "Yes."

Prosecution: "My impression when we first met, you thought when you saw people surrounding Karmelo Anthony it was before the stabbing?"

Witness: "Yes sir."

Prosecution: "That was actually after the stabbing?"

Witness: "I couldn't really tell."

Prosecution: "When you and I met you told me you thought it was before the stabbing?"

Witness: "I thought it was as the stabbing was happening."

Prosecution: "You know you're wrong?"

Witness: "Yes sir."

Prosecutors then played surveillance video from the stadium that showed the witness was not looking at the Memorial High School tent at the time of the stabbing.

Sympathy is between shite and syphilis in the dictionary at this point.

When they get to sentencing, then sympathy comes into play.

Correct, which shows a fundamental disconnect between black culture/perception and the law

There is overwhelming discourse online among black people that it means exactly that. They touch you, you can kill them. They honestly believe this

That implies that it is SOP in the black community.

I don’t think they will like how that reflects on the community.

Most black people think that they’re exempt from any sort of accountability and laws don’t apply to them.

They preach equality and fairness yet believe they should be exempt from certain things bc of their skin color.

This defense team SUCKS! I realize we can't watch live but are they even bothering to object to anything the prosecution does?

This whole line of questioning should have never been allowed to occur.

Institutions refuse to hold them accountable until they do. At which point they cry racism for being held to the same standards as everyone else.

Reading comments from black people on social media has been eye opening and disheartening.

“Just don’t touch nobody and none dis happens” seems to be a common refrain.

It should but We don’t do those anymore. People lie in court everyday now and nothing happens. Part of the reason our justice system sucks now
