You don't know if he carried that knife all the time or just that day. He was a captain of his school team with a 3.7 GPA according to what I have read. He also is a smaller build than other football players. Maybe he was bullied and felt the need to carry a knife or maybe he is just another punk. There is a lot of misinformation and ugly out on the www. It is up to the judicial system to sort through this mess.
I have also read that KA was supposed to participate in the meet.
I don't condone him stabbing another student or anyone. It is obvious that the coach shouldn't have put a 17 y.o. kid in charge of other 17 y.o. and younger kids.
Someone comes up to me at that age and says you need to leave, I would have said "who the F are you to boss me around?"

I carry a pocket knife all the time. Has nothing to do with other people. It has to do with utility.
The murder is not in question. Any attempt by defense counsel to claim self-defense is also an exercise in futility. At any time he could have gotten out of that situation. The only thing that we are arguing here is any level motive and premeditation.

If Scruffy had been told that he was in a tent of another team and to leave, I would have said sorry about that and left because I’m not a POS.

Probably won’t be released until after trial as not to taint the jury pool.
Until a definitive verdict is reached, this potentially gets tried again due to a hung jury and it is hard to seat jurors who have already made their minds up.

I don't know, you sure are making A LOT of excuses for him.
All of the other factors are really irrelevant because this isn't actual self defense. He couldn't control his emotions and killed someone, end of story.
It doesn't really matter if the other kid called him names or whatever, it doesn't matter if they told him to leave the tent, his actions were not justified.

I am almost certain that 17 y.o. Scruffy wouldn't take direction from another person that age. You take direction from adults, not children.

And it is a track meet in Frisco, TX not Baton Rouge. There was no reason to have a knife, somewhere you didn't have to go. He is a POS, point, blank, period

You don't know the exact words that were said to him.

What I did read is there was no specific rule that students couldn't go talk to other students.
