you had a good history teacher then...maybe you should have paid more attention

You mean like when your history class covered Confederacy VP Alex Stephens "Cornerstone Speech" who suggests it all was about slavery?

quote:

African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. Jefferson, in his forecast, had anticipated this, as the "rock upon which the old Union would split." He was right. What was conjecture with him, is now a realized fact. LINK

quote:

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. This truth has been slow in the process of its development, like all other truths in the various departments of science.

While some in the South may have viewed it as a states rights issue, you can't just ignore the large segment of the Confederacy who focused primarily on slavery.

As for states rights, let's not just ignore that Southern states regularly used federal court systems to enforce slave property rights in Northern states.

This isn't some unique thing that only happened in the Civil War.

So I guess you think that human nature and all of human history is retarded then.

Um it's a fact that Confederate flag and decals can be found all over the south.

It's a fact most of them will say they are there for pride in everything but slavery.

I asked if the other parties at fault for slavery in America display their pride in a similar fashion.

We get it man, you think you're smarter than anyone else but instead of actually discussing like you say you want to, you're just calling people emotional and calling yourself rational. You are not being rational.

My God you are brainwashed. Nobody in the USs great great grandfather was even a slave.

get off your lazy arse, quit blaming society for your problems and move on with your life like everyone else.

i’m so sick of the pity party for people who have the same opportunity’s as everyone else but cry restitution

You can acknowledge that impacts persist while still admitting that the impacts aren't keeping black Americans from being successful.

I 100% think it probably fricks with a kid's head to know that in a country where he is still in the small minority, people who looked like him used to BELONG to other people.

Also, the ones waving the confederate flags fit your description of "lazy arse, quit blaming society for your problems and move on with your life" pretty well.

This same thing still goes on today in extremely remote tribes. Conquerors during tribal wars either kill or enslave the conquered.

The assertion made by the previous poster intimated that all Africans were of the same creed, hence "their own."

Different tribes are not "their own." It's asinine to suggest such. Africa is a colossal continent. Europe is much smaller and routinely saw its people war with/enslave each other. As on every continent.

So, yeah, trying to say "their own" on the basis of skin color is fricking stupid.

or what about how 95% of Confederate soldiers didn’t even own a slave?

Poor whites still benefited from slavery. They were not the bottom of the social order and of course they benefitted from infrastructures and things that resulted from slave labor.

quote:

or the part where some slaves were treated so well that they returned back to the plantations they were put on?

The video that I attached addresses this. Also there's something called Willie Lynch syndrome, I suggest you look it up.

quote:

or the part where you find out each slave cost around 20 grand in our money today and how they just had to let what they invested in walk away because the North wanted us to pay for 75% of the federal government in a nicer way?

This is not true and no legit civl war historian condones this narrative. It's all lies that were taught to Southerners to endear them more to the cause of the confederacy.

If you think the effects of slavery and reconstruction aren't still felt then I don't think you have the capability to even begin to understand this issue.

I love when people downvote a post that is simply a quote.
It goes against their belief, yet it's a quote they can't refute so they downvote...

Not going to avoid attempting to break up the USA because I want to own human beings?

I think I'm avoiding that quite well, ol' sport

Oh i agree. However, size of Africa isn't relative to those facts. Warring tribes were, for the most part, neighboring tribes.

Agreed. Also stating that Southerners who exhibit any southern pride are racists is equally stupid.

So you tell him he is wrong for saying they were sold by their enemies then

That doesn't sound like you refuted him.

People are literally fighting for the interest of the 1% still to this day. It happened in Rome and Greece and Asia and Africa and all over this world. War is almost always the manipulation of the poor to fight for the rich
