This isn’t another thread about trying to justify having an old lady with cancer pay to trim her trees that have branches growing on my side of the fence. I need to trim some branches off of my own trees.

I’m looking at either one of those extendable pruners with ropes and a separate saw attachment or an extendable electric pole saw.

I see an electric pole saw from dewalt that looks pretty nice. But I will probably only need to trim once every few years. So I’m not sure if the extra cost is worth it. I’m also considering a Fiskars extendable pole saw and tree pruner. Does anybody have any experience with these? If not, what do you use? And can you recommend a brand/model that has held up well and gets the job done?

Rent an echo from Home Depot. It is not expensive and will be 10x faster then what you're talking about buying.

I write a check every couple of years.

Works well, they’re licensed and insured.

I use my EGO pole saw about once a year and it’s definitely worth it

A pole saw is handy even when you’re cutting low. It’s a mini chainsaw. I’d buy it.

I have an electric Portland pole saw I bought from Harbor Freight. Nothing fancy and I use it two to three times a year to trim some trees near my house. No complaints and it was cheaper than most other brands. Stihl and Echo are good brands you usually can’t go wrong with either. I just didn’t need anything that nice.

How did this oak f you? Were you trimming it yourself or not trimming at all?

Yep. For the two or three times a year you may use it, it’ll probably last a lifetime for half the price. I’ve had mine for probably 6 or 7 years, keep it oiled.

I have 2 of the pole pruners which are nice but of my 2 I prefer the non-Fiskars version. Their saw blade is not curved enough for good cutting higher above. I have an electric pole saw that works fine. However the problem with electric pole saws as opposed to gas versions is the weight is all in the motor which is at the saw end. There is little balance on some of these because all the weight is on the end you are lifting above you. Just a couple of thoughts. I’d just rent an Echo or Stihl gas pole saw if I had to do a good bit of cutting.

The baws on TD’s Home/Garden Board will have a lot of thoughts on this if you post it there. Or an admin moves.

If you have dewalt battery powered tools just spend the money and get the Dewalt Pole saw. I used mine this weekend to start cutting down some smaller size trees and it works great. I also use it for the deer lease during season if I need to limb.

I have a Greenworks corded electric pole chainsaw with an 8” (sublte brag) bar. It extends and is perfect for what you describe. I’ve had it for nearly 8 years or so. It still works very well. I also use a 100’ extension cord. I add bar oil and sharpen it now and then. Other than having to keep an eye on the cord, it’s perfect.
