Either spend some time and money on trees or a inconvenient storm will put it into your house.

Just had 2200 worth of oaks cut and some big magnolias. Hopefully thinned it out enough for wind to go through in a big storm. Had to do it for insurance anyways.

If a tree is within 250 ft radius of your house. Cut it down.

I've cut down an elm, a cedar and an oak this summer. Will be cutting down 3 more oaks this fall.

I do it all myself and have a wood burning stove in the house for heat. Those hardwoods feed the beast and keep my winter utility bills to nothing.

You also have all the people that complain when the electric companies cut back too much of the trees and then are the first to bitch about their power getting knocked out.

Derecho cleared my block out so we didn’t have much to worry about.

Not a tree within 4 house in either direction can do any damage left.

Pay for it when the sun is roasting my arse on walks

Do you split wood the old fashioned way or do you recommend a particular hydraulic one?

Did that in 2007 with a water oak near the house. Clearly a Murphy's law situation.

A 100’ oak fell and nearly took out our garage on Saturday. No wind, nothing. It just keeled over. Looked totally healthy but I see a ton of rot inside the trunk at the base now.

shite. I quit handsplitting when I was 47. Up til then it was a 10 lbs sledge and a splitting wedge.

Now I use a 25 ton hydraulic with a 6.5 hp motor.

Of the grants that are put it out tree removal would be the wisest. A good portion of fhe destruction are trees that people cannot afford to cut down

In Hurricane Country the smart thing is to NOT have a Water Oak or a Pine Tree within striking distance of a house. The oak trees might provide shade, but when it falls on the house you aren’t going to be worried about shade. House Splitters, AKA Pine Trees serve no purpose that close to a house, because they can and will split a house into during a storm, and unfortunately kill people in the process.

Just had a water oak with a huge dead branch and an Ash cut down and another oak trimmed. Cost me $4900. Still cheaper than having them fall on the house

Dayum

I had a ~60' water oak cut down this morning

Thank god because after it was removed I noticed about 40% of the trunk was rotting/hollow
