I just had the privilege to go to the Grand Canyon. Started in Phoenix, drive up through Sedona, which is worth the trip to see in itself.

Some people rag on the GC because they think it's just some big hole, but words don't do it justice. I want to plan another trip out there soon.

Next time I would like to stay in Sedona for a few days.

I said he shouldn’t be bragging. That’s a far cry from saying his travels have sucked or looking down on them.

I said he was more traveled than most, but he shouldn’t be on his high horse.

For the record I don’t think my travels warrant bragging either.

That’s what I did, but in reverse order. Spent about five days at the Grand Canyon then split the drive back to PHX by staying a couple of nights in Sedona. Incredible place.

I guess to me it depends on how deep I got into the local culture. I am from North La and love visiting and staying in the cajun areas of La. But only if I find the right people that take me somewhere where its dominated by the locals having a good time and not part of the tourist trap. Same issue with visiting Maine and California. If you have friends that are local it helps a lot.

I’m right there with you baw. I’ve taken so many carnival cruises that sometimes I just wanna stay on the boat and be first in line for the buffet instead of getting off at some poor country’s dock.

I’ve seen every part of the ship you’re allowed to, I know the best slot machines to sit on, I know where good part of the smoking section is and I know the right things to complain about to get a discount on my next cruise.

Some people just don’t understand experienced travelers like ourselves.

I think the fact that it is in the U.S. somehow takes away the awesomeness of it to some U.S. travelers. They may think "meh, I can go see that anytime". They forget how many travelers all over the world come to visit.

I know people here in AZ that were born in AZ and live a few hours away from GC and have never gone. They just never got around to it is the reply they usually have.

I was in my early 20’s at the time making my first trip through Italy. I tried to see way too much in the two weeks I had scheduled, and my experience in Rome changed the way I looked at travel going forward.

I’m not sure why you’re making an attempt at a gotcha when that was the entire purpose of my telling the story.

Yeah probably.

North AMerica has the most varied and spectacular scenery on the planet IMO

I’ll be impressed when someone from the OT goes to North Sentinel Island, impregnates the chiefs wife, then steals his ceremonial war spear and swims back to the Indian mainland but naked with tribal war paint on his face.

Now that’s what I call traveling.

It does, and we totally take that for granted.

I agree about the GC being an almost religious experience. Words or pictures just cannot fully describe that first view you have of it. It will stun you into silence.

I wanted to travel

My only experience was combat zones

I also got married to a controlling manipulative woman. I’d easily have 100k in savings if not for her

I agree.

I've actually been trying to make a point of balancing my future trips abroad with major domestic trips. It's tempting to downplay what we have in our own backyard. As a personal case in point, I lived in Baton Rouge for over a decade before I ever stepped foot inside the old state capitol. It's absurd that we tend to be so myopic in that respect.
