You should join "fight club". It sounds like you are a pussy in need of a pounding.

Nurse,
Or take him to Navaho country, not that far to the east of the Grand Canyon, and stay at The View overlooking Monument Valley. The rooms all have patios, and all overlook the monuments. It is soothing in a way I could not have expected before going there.

Bryce Canyon to the north would be on your way home. If you or your Father have ever dabbled in water colors, just stopping and sketching would make memories.

If you are in decent shape try hiking down into the Grand Canyon and either staying at Phantom Ranch or camping. My friends and I just did this and it was the coolest thing I’ve ever done and I’ve traveled pretty extensively. It’s chsllenging but definitely worth it

my bucket list still includes the western US. I want to take a road trip out west and see the Grand Canyon.

Whoopty doo, Basil. Been there done that...many times.
7 hiking trips into the Canyon.
At least 5 non-hiking trips. 3 at the South rim and 2 to the North Rim.
And everyone of these trips included traveling the western US and at least 6 trips to Vegas.

But in all seriousness, I get what you mean. When I was 10 Dad took us on a 2 week trip out west, including Mexico. I've seen stuff at 10 that most people never see. It's the reason I keep going back, looking for that high. It was like having sex with an OT 10 at 10. I've seen perfection too young. Everything seemed downhill after that.
