World Series in Gulfport. 9-U. Kid has two games tonight... 530 and 815 pm. Then, the 9-U World Series is over.
Why?
Because only three teams signed up to play in the 9-U world series.
And do you know why that is??
What does that tell you?
It’s not just about baseball or the “World Series”.
No one wants to go to fricking Gulfport for a week.
People would rather go to the beach, Orange Beach or Panama City with the family and friends and mix in a vacation with some baseball for an end of the season tournament and fun.

Yep, total BS. I'm losing three of my DYB All Star players after our game tonight because they've qualified for the "World Series" with their travel teams. What a joke.
You can either represent your community or you can pay an arse of money and be just another team that payed the money to be a part of a money making scam.

This. The really sad part is, these folks all dreaming of little Johnny getting that scholarship don't know the facts of how it works. Secondly, if they took all that money they spent on lessons, gas, motels and invested it, they could pay for a college education in a few years.

This is very true. My son's travel team promotes their high school division and getting kids scholarships for college. They always say you are investing now for the kid's chance to play college ball. When in fact, you will get a partial scholarship that probably cost way less than the amount of money that you paid your club team.

You probably have not been to the World Series thing in Orange Beach. By the time all of the games are over each day until the KO's you spend the better part of the day at the ballpark.....there is not a whole lot of beach time.....maybe 1 day tops out of the 5 you will spend there. The traffic sucks as well and it gets hot as balls. evenings at Caribe, though are pretty cool

I have. 3 years in a row. Thanks for asking.
We actually did one year in Sulphur, 3 in OB and last summer in Cooperstown.
We had plenty of beach time.
2 games a day is not spending all day at the ballpark. Unless you make it to the finals on the final day, yes that can be a long day.

And they just added a bunch of new fields, too. I sees it when I go to the waterpark there.
Apparently, they had 9 teams "express interest" earlier in the year.
Two teams disbanded at some point
One is still around but did not play in a state tournament, which is apparently a pre-req (you don't have to win anything, just need to show up and play)
One apparently had an "issue" at a state tournament and was disqualified from playing at the WS
My buddy doesn't know what happened to the other two teams.

Have you done the ropes course next to the water park. My son practices soccer next to the new baseball fields, and it's always looked cool through the trees and over the road.

I have not. I have offered to take my girls on multiple occasions but they don't want to go, and I haven't had a chance to just go by myself.

Some of y’all get worked up over the most trivial shite. I’m sure there is too many teams, but who gives a shite? It doesn’t affect you. You started a thread and sound mad over little league baseball lol. Think about your life. “Back in MY day, we did it the RITE way gawd dammit”

Is different. There’s only one organization that matters, USYSA. And the regionals are going on right now. The teams that win these four regionals will go on to nationals. There will only be one national champion.
well this is beyond wrong these days

Starts at U13?
My boy played up a year in a qualifier (MSA Premier Cup) and lost 3 of 4 games. Tough sledding.

I'm sorry, but are you besmirching my little Kayden, Jayden, Braydon, Kaylin, Kylan, Brylin, or Baylon and the 9 home runs he hit this weekend? Because I'll get the whole family up to Sonic as soon as we get back from Hammond, Lafayette, or Covington this weekend.
Nominated for POY!!!

I've responded to these threads two or three times, but have refrained from this one...here is the deal, y'all call them traveling teams..there are literally 2-3 actual travel teams per state (big kids for age), most play within an hour of their house...rec baseball is garbage, walks and errors, all the good kids play on "competitive" tournament teams..cost 600-800..teams do a world series at beach at end of year, vacation summer trip where they would have spent that already
In Memphis, if you don't play competitive baseball, you don't make highschool team..period
My son had D2, D-3 offers but went juco (cost me 1,000 for housing a year..to take core classes that transfer every where in SEC) because his dream is SEC..He is a rising sophomore at his Juco getting free housing and meals playing in Canada this summer trying to make the dream happen

He was invited by the '05 team, he's an '06, to play for that (State) tournament. He thought in a support role, but they played him center-mid every game, the whole time. Needless to say, he struggled to compete with the centers on 3 of the 4 teams.
He knows what to expect next year though.

I coached rec one year before going the “Tournament Ball” aka travel ball route. I was cussed out and threaten to have my arse whooped for what??? I told their bratty arse kid to sit in the dugout. Had a kids dad come out on the field and get his son from running laps with the rest of the team! Said “my sons not doing this”
I love the saying “it’s a money making scam”. HELL WHAT ISNT!!!

I believe so. Presidents Cup has its purpose, but I think it should be reserved for smaller clubs. The second team from bigdog club shouldn't be eligible to play in it.
