Guy I knew did that with a specialized tool for an old car. Bought it on an online clearance sale, used it once, sent it back for a return. As is fairly common with old car parts places, they will find a new source for a part and put any remaining parts from the old source on clearance.
Months later, he realized he needed that tool so long as he had his car. So, he went back to buy it. The clearance sale was over, and now the regular price was double the clearance price. Since this was the only tool source other than bumbling into one on Ebay, he was stuck paying the new price.
