Any of you guys have experience with having a vehicle transported cross country?

I’ve been doing my research and a lot of the companies seem sketchy. For example, a ton of companies are named AAA-something, and that’s raising some red flags.

Unless it's an irreplaceable antique just verify their insurance and take pics pre-trip. (Don't forget pics of odometer.)

they are just mostly brokers and will farm the work out. Nobody is going to steal your car but it probably won't be there when they promise. What are you shipping? You can go with the waggoners or reliable carriers but you will pay a premium.

Spend the money on a good reputable transporter.

Sometimes the lowest bid has the highest cost

I used Montway Auto Transport several times and they were excellent. Had my Mercedes SL550 shipped to SC from Houston and back and myLexus LS460 to AL and back. No issues and reasonably priced. It was $550 each way

We just used one to transport from Tampa to Lubbock, TX. Yes, it was a broker deal, put it on a flatbed and picked up a truck on the way. The deal with brokers farming it out is you have to be flexible with arrival times. It was $850.00 for the transport.

I’ve looked at Montway, any other specific recommendations?

Did a closed trailer transport from CA to BR for my vehicle. No issues except the $1800 price tag

I used shipcar.com a few years ago for a vehicle I bought on eBay. They were backed by eBay and ended up being a good transaction. They kept me informed of when it was picked up, other stops along the way, and the driver called me when my car was next in line to be delivered and where Id like to meet up. In total cost around 950 bucks mainly bc the car was picked up in BFE in Colorado so it was a bit out of the way to get.

On the off-chance it is an antique or collectible: Horseless Carriage

They’ve been around for decades and never had an issue with them.

I had Horseless Carriage pick up a vintage passenger vehicle in SoCal and deliver it to a business in Louisiana.

Everything went exactly as was advertised, no surprises, would use them again.

$1,250 total, it was two years ago.

I used Q Auto Transport. Open transport from SC to La. was $700. Took about 2-3 days or so. Guy driving a beat up old dually and pulling a trailer with a couple of cars on it. He was a hot shot driver who drove up from south Florida, grabbed a car or two in SC, delivered one in La and was then heading on to Houston to drop the other one. Had I seen the setup (which doesn’t at all resemble the carriers on their website),I probably wouldn’t have used them. But it served its purpose and got the car there with no problems.

The one experience I've actually had personally was generally fine except for the fact that it took like 2 days to get from Shreveport to new orleans.

Driver claimed he was hitting the road at like 6am and I was gonna be the first car off the truck. Called the dude every few hours because I needed it at a certain time. Every call I ask him where he is and he's like 30-45 minutes further behind with each successive call.

Call the dude at like 3 pm and he said he's just getting to BR. I need it to be in nola by 5 so I'm thinking this is gonna be tight but he should make it.

Dude doesn't show up until 630.

So like 12 and a half hours from Shreveport to new orleans and like 3.5 hours to drive the 80 or so miles between BR and nola.

Car was fine but it was a pain in the arse.

We used Front Door Transportation out of Orlando, but I think the broker was Mercury Auto Transport.
