Transmission Rebuild Longevity

Transmission was slipping a few months ago so I brought it to a mechanic for a rebuild. Anyone here ever done this and if so, did it last until you got rid of the vehicle. Transmission went out at 128k. At 135k currently.

Properly done it should live just as long as the factory one did.

no. the vast majority of transmission problems are caused by bad motor mounts and transmission mounts. they never change those when they rebuild the transmissions so you're 75% likely to wind up with same problem 20k miles down the road. Acuras have had the same transmission problems for 30 years bc the freaking pos company won't upgrade the mounts. that's no accident. several companies use those same products but I can't remember off the top of my head.

They absolutely can affect the alignment between the drive shaft and the input shaft. Poor alignment will impact the tranny internals. That however is a pretty rare cause of tranny issues unless it is a severe misalignmemt.

That would wear out your u-joints or driveshaft center support if applicable. I absolutely cannot see how it would cause internal valve damage which is what causes slippage.

No, the vast majority of transmission problems are caused when the pump wears and doesn’t pump enough to keep the fluid pressure up. As a result, the clutches start slipping and wreck the transmisssion

I don't run a transmission shop, but I don't believe that. As far as I know all automotive transmissions are bellhousing mounted to the engine.

Replaced a transmission with a reman @ 120k, ran it to 285k with no issues. F150 2008.

Had a Toyota transmission go out at 90k. Rebuild lasted 2 months. Tran shop could not find parts to repair under warranty, substituted Toy reman. 12 months no issues.

Transmission Shop owner told me: transmission rebuilds in supply change challenges; the good shops are sucking up the US/European made rebuild kits. The lessor shops are using the cheap Chinese shite parts.

Better to go with a manufacturer rebuild.

I put 100k on my new transmission that cost less than $3k almost a decade ago

I put a GM reman 4L80e in a very hard used 2500 with about 250k miles on it. Sold it with 285k miles. Its still hooked up to gooseneck trailers with something like 350k on it and no issues.

You can put in a factory reman in any vehicle for less than a down payment on a new one. Its really a no brainer.

Mine made it to 102K, then I had to replace with one that had 40K. I’m counting the days til I pay this off so I can trade in for a RAV4.

POS torque converter is the culprit. Bring it to a shop the installs and better one. Mine went out at 85k miles. I’m at 170k now with no more problems.

Don't go to Transmission Depot in Abita Springs. That's all I'm saying.

I would not do anything but a dealer replacement.
