Traffic Engineers in Baton Rouge

What grade (A -F) would you give to the current engineers who design the interchanges and control daily traffic light cycles in Baton Rouge? Include those who want to push ideas like "road diets" , traffic calming, and metering cars merging onto the interstate.

It's not like there's a team of engineers in a control room somewhere with unlimited time, data, and funding to continuously control roads and traffic.

I'll never understand why Nicholson around LSU has right turning lanes but not left turning lanes just to frick with everyone.

The current engineers more than likely had nothing to do with the issues they are faced with. As far as the measures they are proposing or installing, there is quite a bit of statistical data showing that they are effective. There is still not much they can do about a century of neglect by city planners

There are some bottlenecks in baton rouge, especially in the college drive area, that can be improved 10 fold by slightly increasing the light cycle for that bottleneck light.
I get it that there isn't a person in a room doing calculations all day on this stuff, but whoever the frick gets the complaints on this stuff doesn't do a god damn thing with it.
Some directions get 2 minutes of green light while a bottlenecked left turn lane gets 7 seconds. I get the feeling that a change isn't made because those bottlenecks only exist for 20% of the day.

These systems were designed years ago dummy

As a former traffic engineer in Baton Rouge, I can tell you that you are correct. It's very difficult to untangle this mess, particularly with a city which largely does not favor connectivity (mainly the NIMBY's). To add to that, the politics, lack of funding, and general ineptitude of the government agencies put further restrictions on what can be done. It's a sad state of affairs, and one of the reasons I changed sub-disciplines. It's very unfulfilling.

This city is a clusterfrick
Been sitting in traffic one hour and gone exactly 7 miles

This is the worst part, we are still approving the very things(no street grid plan, subsidizing sprawl, single entrance subdivisions, caving to NIMBYs, etc) that put us in this shite scenario in the first place.

Whoever designed the road system in baton rouge should be neutered so he can't reproduce

I wouldn't put it all on the engineers. The amount of bullshite those guys have to wade through to get anything done is unbelievable.
It's just the nature of dealing with governmental bodies, workers & politicians where everything turns into a 3 ring circus.

Can someone define NIMBY for me please?
One thing I hated about Kip is that he kept tying in the streets and lights funding with that damn aquarium. I would've voted for the it every time if that aquarium and the downtown beatification project wouldn't have been part of the tax increase usage.

What makes you think the current engineers had anything to do with the poorly designed infrastructure from years ago?
Also many a times the engineers are shot down with their conceptual ideas to alleviate congestion (ala the loop for 39 years now) because of politicians.
^^ a whole lot of this

Not in my back yard. Everybody wants a new freeway but nobody wants it next to their house.

I highly doubt BR has any traffic engineers

Well allowing Southdowns Civic Association to hold this city hostage for 40 years in not allowing Lee Drive shows the courage of the politicians. I can assure you if I were elected I would tell them to frick themselves and four lane immediately. If I'm a one term so be it.
One entrance subdivisions should never be allowed when connectivity is available.
And the citizens need to step up and pay for it because waiting around for the state or Feds like we have been doing doesn't work. When we made the temporary pot hole tax permanent we were able to bond the money and start building. And they did. We need to fund it more. I'm not a big tax guy but I will pay when I know it is being spent right and we are benefiting.
