I wish they would install a turn lane from Constitution Ave onto I 10 E. The space is there. They just need to draw the lines.

I did the design on the I-10 widening from bluebonnet to I-12. You're welcome frickers

Since I'm a former pusher of these ideas in Baton Rouge, and southern Louisiana in general, I'll give myself a decent grade for the designs, and the government, developers, and citizens an F on implementation and acceptance of those ideas. I can't wait until the Government St. diet is proven successful.
What are your fix-all designs?

Honestly, I can't see the logic in this. Government needs turn lanes, but it needs to be a 4 lane road with turn lanes.

Not all traffic engineers are in agreement that this is going to work.

In traffic engineer school, did they ever teach you guys how to sync traffic lights?

The section with the ponding water causing everyone to hydroplane?

Yes, and they also taught us that syncing lights isn't as simple as pressing a few buttons. Not all signal controllers have that capability, and the ones that do require fiber optic connections throughout the corridors (to do it right, anyway). There are several corridors that have modern controllers and connectivity in BR. For instance, all of downtown. But some, like College Dr, have capacity issues and high side street volumes that can't be completely alleviated by coordinated cycles.

Downtown has the worst light timing anywhere in town... Every d*** intersection and none of them timed together... And those are the "modern" ones??

I'll bet you a beer the Government Street plan will be reversed or changed into something vastly different in less than ten years. Four lanes and turning lanes are going to be proven to be the solution. Once the diet is in effect the businesses on Government will begin to suffer and the complaints of lack of customers will begin to be heard. If they are ignored, then you will begin to see a blight along this thoroughfare.
Common sense is apparently anything but common.

The reason a lot of businesses have recently invested in the area is bc the promise of the road diet.

Actually, it is in my back yard, and I don't want Mid City to be the victim of a decline due to a pipe dream. It's a poorly thought out idea.

I want to know why the shite Nicholson got dropped from 3 lanes one way down by interstate onramp and intersection with Government to two lanes north, one south. Traffic backs up there in the morning now and one car going straight at the light now holds up everyone who needs to turn right. And as soon as the light cycles green and you turn right, the light on Government turns red and you are forced to wait through another cycle.
What has been achieved with this because I very rarely see anyone using the single lane going south on Nicholson there. It has made what was otherwise very smooth traffic in the mornings there much hairier.

The entire problem with Baton Rouge roads IMO is that the entire system is made to get people off the side streets as quickly as possible. The reason why traffic crawls down major roads is all these fricking minor arse side streets have lights that cycle every 20 seconds.
Should be common sense to keep the main arteries green as much as possible and have the traffic stack up on the side streets and cycle those cars in every 2-3 min.

From TEAPAC to Synchro to TSPP-DRAFT to HCS+ to name your HCM-based software, there are multitudes of packages that optimize timing (splits, offsets, Texas.). But, they are limited to site conditions and Some young engineers who aren't fully versed in using them.
My finger print is all over BR, but poor planning in BR's early years and politics are hard to overcome.
