I would absolutely buy a house in Kenilworth/Magnolia Woods or Concord Estates/Stratford Place if working at OLOL.

Solid advice. That way the OP wouldn't even have to get onto Essen.

Really depends on the price range. Plenty of good, safe neighborhoods around OLOL. Get to close to LSU, and the rent goes up because of the students though.

Not worth it. You don't want that commute while you're in school. Pick someplace reasonably close by save the headache.

Plus your biggest risk of not being safe is while you're at work/school/parking lot etc being at OLOL, not your house.

Look near George's or Splash as your post seems to make you sound like....nevermind. Traffic is everywhere. Crime is everywhere. Be aware of your surroundings. Don't try to win stupid prizes by playing stupid games. Etc. Live where you want. Single and looking to slay between work and school, stay in BR. Milf hunting go to Cadillac or Ringside. Family...stay in Ascension or LP.

I didn't mean to suggest he actually check those out. Just a reminder that that areas has issues too

Turnberry and Blu aren't bad though...last time I checked anyway.

Do NOT move to anywhere that would require you to travel on HWY 73 in the morning.

525 Lafayette

$,$$$

Secure parking and 24 hour controlled access to building. Grocery, restaurants, bars are walking distance. Drive would not be too bad. Ain't cheap tho

The possibility of dying in a car accident in ascension parish if you work/school in BR is higher than living in BR close to the lake. Not to mention having to deal with that cluster every day. And it will NEVER get any better.

Just my opinion.

If safety > traffic: Walker. Very little unsolved violent crime and the PD is highly visible. I’ve never felt safer anywhere I’ve lived. That being said-if you have kids, tell them not to eat the cupcakes at school.

I’m not suggesting that Baton Rouge is safe to live in at all but I used to live in Prairieville and was more worried about dying on the interstate in a wreck on that stretch vs getting shot living in town.

Unless you are parking in garage and shutting the door..(and even then be careful) no matter where you live, you should always be aware of your surroundings when exiting and entering your car. I lived in a new gated neighborhood close to Bluebonnet and Perkins and nearly got my head blown off during a robbery in my garage.

That being said I would not trade more safety to have burn gas and drive a 30 minute commute when there are relatively safe places to live just 5 minutes away from OLOL.

You right. There are good places all around. Oakleigh is just turrible. And it legit went to shite WHILE we lived there. I called the office and they said "No we do not rent to Section 8". Turns out it was a different label for the same bullshite. I notice in early 2013 a lot of MFers not going to work every day like most people in apartments under 70 yrs old.
