I find it interesting the way they use a large staff, small carts and product placement to encourage impulse buying. Anyone else notice that they do this on purpose?

I don’t know why I’m thinking about this. It’s the opposite of Costco.

Every time I have been to Trader Joes in BR, it has been a fricking mad house. Lines out the arse and more crowded than I have ever seen any other grocery store. I have walked in there and immediately walked back out twice. I don't really know if it's any good, but I know it ain't worth that shite.

Must be bad luck or trying to go right after 5 o clock and everyone getting off of work. I should probably try just like a saturday afternoon or something.

The vegetables are always very fresh and comparatively cheap. The staff is very helpful and will open a line quickly. Whole Foods could learn a thing or two about how they treat customers.

If you go to any store before 9:00am, you can avoid the crowds and the stupids. It works for Walmart too

Trader Joe's beats the shite out of most grocery stores, but it is not easy for a large family to shop there. Great and reasonably priced quality food. Half the price of Whole Foods and just as good.

Isn't every single thing in the store, except maybe some beer and wine, their own brand? That screams generic to me.

They white label everything. They just cut secret deals with companies and put the Trader Joe name on it. But nothing is actually made by them

The customer service at Trader Joe’s is outstanding. Recently I was in line to check out. A young lady behind me only had 2 or 3 items, so I told the cashier to let her go ahead of me. The employee said “we like to reward people for acts of kindness” and said “your milk is on the house” and didn’t charge me for it. Small gesture but I was impressed. They come over when they see you checking out a product to tell you about it and they have even opened a package to let me try something before buying it.

You can say Costco does similar, they move shite all the time and there are no signs on isles for a reason, to get you going down all of them. Both obviously highly successful.

For example. They have a little jar of kosher salt mixed with truffle flakes .....$3.99

That’s a good deal

Most store brands of every store are made by a name brand company.

The company still makes a profit and the store gets a quality product.

Except for soda. Almost all generic sodas are made by RC.

Their business model is to sell over-priced frozen dinners.

Everything is premade in that place.

But I will say: the Panama coffee is fricking delicious.

So it’s all about

Service
Product placement
Quality products (shite that tastes good rather than some dumb kale and beet soup at WF)
Pricing power
Cheap booze
Small portions
