I was just offered 18.5k for my truck sight unseen, which I owe less than 8k for.
Would I be stupid to not take it and get a newer vehicle?

I know inventory sucks right now but it’s worth taking the offer?
Anyone guess on how long these type of offers will be going on?

Unless you have a vehicle already lined up, any gain from selling the old truck will be wiped out by the increase foe the new one.

About the only people I know who have come out ahead on this are my in laws, who had three cars and the one they sold already had issues and was never the same after getting hit by a dumbass.

They banked the money for now and will get a new car when they find one they like and is available, not immediately.

I was going to post something similar. Almost have my house paid for, only owe $20k. Offer is 400k. Would I be stupid not to take the money? Similar homes to mine are selling for 450-500k

Inventory is starting to slowly recover and used prices have peaked. I don’t know what makes sense for you.

Sold my truck to a dealer 2 weeks ago. Just waiting for prices to get back to somewhat normal. 2019 GMC truck. Paid $46,103 on March 30, 2019. Sold it for $45,000. So drove it for 2 1/2 years for $1013.

Why would you take 50-100k below market value?

Traded my 2020 GMC Sierra 2 weeks ago in a Silverado 2500 Gas burner that was in transit. I paid 45K 2 years ago and got 49500 for my trade. Dealer gave me GM supplier discount in my new truck plus $1000 Costco rebate. Really happy with my deal.

That being said I was lucky to find what I was looking for in the local area. Most new trucks don’t make it off the delivery truck without being sold unless the dealer is charging above MSRP.

Do y’all not understand sarcasm and replacement cost? You think ole boy in the original post is going to downsize to a beater? If the OP mentioned initial purchase price, mileage, replacement vehicle purchase price, etc, we might be able to give a reasonable response.

I traded my F-150 a few weeks ago for $500 more than I paid for it 5.5 years ago.

Knew I forgot to add more details.

2016 GMC Sierra 2wd crew cab.
Bought in 2017 with 10k miles for 34k
Has around 88k miles now.
Think it was classified as a fleet vehicle. Nothing fancy clothes, just base trim.

Not even sure what vehicle I’m going to choose.

I’ve got a 2016 1500 Denali that books for $3800 more than I paid for it 3 years ago. Been thinking about selling, but can’t find anything I want to replace it with yet.

Out of curiosity, what kind of mileage y’all have on your vehicles? I’ve got a 2017 with 130,000 on it. I can’t see them being that generous to
Me.

What will depreciate more over the next 80k-100k miles? A new vehicle or your current? I’m guessing you could sell your truck with 180k miles on it in eight years for 6-8 grand or so. A new truck is going to depreciate more than 10-12k over 8 years. Pay off truck and pocket those (presumed) monthly payments for 6 years.

To add to this, if you aren’t having issues with yours, then you know what you have. Trade it in and there’s a chance the new truck could have issues. Just something to think about, because it is a bit more of a gamble being the current inventory is low.

Another thing to think about is where the new truck is coming from.has it been sitting in one of those big arse lots uncranked for the past year waiting for parts? You’ll never know.

but you’ll probably have to pay all the sales tax again

This is something I’m considering as well. My reason though is I was considering a custom built vehicle. When you order custom I’m assuming there isn’t much “negotiating” on price so with trade in values being crazy high would this be the time to consider custom ordering?

If your truck is still running good, then keep it.

It’s honestly hit and miss right now, I work for a GM dealership, and bc inventory is low right now, used vehicle prices are higher than I’ve ever seen… my truck is a 2018 Silverado LTZ crew cab, December of 2020 I was thinking about trading it in my work was going to give me 36k now they would easily give me 40k for it bc it’s in perfect condition and I just hit 33,000 miles (actually hit 33k today)

Point is your going to get more for your used vehicle than you could prob ever get, but picking are slim, if it breaks down parts are slimmer, and chances of getting a loaner bc your under warranty good luck buddy bc there are none to be given
