Toyota said Monday it will shift most production of its midsize Tacoma pickup truck from Mexico to the United States as part of a $3.6 billion investment in its San Antonio, Texas, plant. The transition from Toyota's Tijuana, Mexico, facility will take roughly four years, the Japanese auto giant said.

The announcement comes just days after Washington declined to renew a North American trade pact with Mexico, as well as Canada, fueling uncertainty for businesses.

Toyota said in November it planned to invest as much as $10 billion in the United States over the next five years.

Put the V6 back in the Tacomas and scrap that turbo 4 banger nonsense.

My GX was built in Japan. Do they still make Toyotas there?

Bro the Tundras have been made in San Antonio area for years.

I do wish the government would get out of the efficiency regulation business and let Toyota get back to making motors that would last for 300k miles

He would likely have to do away with the chicken tax for that.

I just looked it up and it blows my mind that the top two "trucks" on the AMI index are the Gladiator and Ridgeline.

You say that, but most American truck buyers wouldn't be happy with the Hilux

Well, I'm glad we'll get manufacturing over Mexico, but I selfishly like my cars made in Japan

Their culture lends itself to fine, precise craftmanship

Ridgeline going away for couple model years…hopefully back with a better design, instead of a minivan with a bed. Gladiator just doesn’t excel at anything & looks goofy as hell. Shoulda been a 2door, not an ungainly 4 door.

Pretty soon all American cars will be made in Japan and we’ll have come full-circle. Well, half-circle.

Yes, I have stressed & beat the everloving shite out of my 4R for the last 7 years.
It's a very heavy and lifted overland build.
and I'm pleased to report that NOTHING has broken except the 5 dollar door lock actuator motor that breaks on all 4R's, Taco's, FJ's etc..
5.00 and 35 minutes to replace or 625.00 at the dealership

People don't care. The Tacoma just set an all time record number of sales in the trucks history.

That's good, but a little surprising considering that they don't know if the tariffs will be over in 4 years. Trump only has 2.5 years left as president and it's not clear if his successor will do tariffs.

That Turbo 4 is proving to be a good powertrain after some early teething issues. It’s got a helluva lot more torque & much better MPG. You will have to do more frequent oil changes with a turbo though & just can’t neglect it like the old ones. If I had to buy now, it would be between Taco & Frontier
I do like the old-school-ness of the Nissan, especially the new ‘27 Sport package they have coming this summer.
The choice between a Toyota turbo vs GM twins & Ferd is a no-brainer.
