They're trying really hard to convince me I need one of their trucks instead of my domestic brand

Let the free market operate.
I don't drive an electric vehicle now simply because they are too much of a hassle.
But the day I can take a long road trip as easily and cheaper in an electric vehicle than a gas powered one, I'll switch absolutely no problem.

Somewhat related - there are 3rd party companies ( here's one) selling battery packs for, ironically, Toyota and Lexus hybrids.
I've read stories about how Tesla hates 3rd party anything, but my guess that someone will figure out how to replace their battery packs as well. Maybe 90% capacity for 50% cost, but that's still a bargain.
ETA - YouTube from a 3rd Party Shop; interesting in part because one bad cell turned a $15k battery pack into a boat anchor. Said shop found and replaced said cell for substantially less.

I'm definitely going to get an EV eventually for my daily commuter car. Almost all parking garages and offices where I live have charging stations in surplus and it just makes sense for that.
But it won't be my road trip car for a very long time, if ever.

I’ve been a Honda man for awhile but have but decided my next car will be Toyota. I guess some of the decision will be time and need but if both of those are on my side, I’m looking Toyota first.
We moved from Honda to Toyota and couldn't be happier.
Thus far my wife's Sienna has been a much better car than the Odyssey was. Way fewer recalls and better comfort.
I sold my old F150 and got a Tundra also. Great truck and plan on keeping it for a while.
I don't think Honda is the car company they were 20 years ago.

Toyota seemingly hates updating their cars because they have models that just work and people love. They don’t fall into the trap of fricking up a good thing just because they have executives that feel like they need to justify their own existence by changing things up for no reason
Yep. Not necessarily in regards to EVs because I really think they will take a pretty hard hit if they don't start to embrace it now. It's coming.
But fixing what isn't broke is always a bad idea. Progress for the sake of progress often leads to bad outcomes.

Toyota leads the way in hydrogen powered fuel cells.
I wish they would bring them to market quicker. They are selling them in other countries.
I think that is a better alternative than electric in the long run.

Electric vehicles is the dumbest frick scheme ever considered, has to be a democratic idea, frick’m

I would venture to guess Toyota has done the math and figures pure EV's are a loser with the current state of technology.
Or more than likely they're behind on pure EV investment
They probably dumped too much money into the hydrogen fuel cell tech and hybrids and not enough into pure EVs

Why? There are certainly advantages and disadvantages
Electric vehicles make a lot of sense for some people

Toyota is the king of hybrids. Those are better than EVs. Uses a lot less gas and no electricity.

Says who? You?
I'll trust the bean counters at Toyota over you.
They absolutely created, and cornered, the market on hybrids so I am quite sure they know what the current tech is capable of and not.
Give it a few years and these EV's will flop. People, in general, don't want them. And those that do, many of them sell them in the short term and go back to gas.
And don't quote me the "record number of pre-prders" for Fords electric truck turd.

Has nothing to do with their manufacturing prowess. They may have made the wrong move by not investing more into EV’s than they did.
Again, it will not fricking matter in the long term for Toyota.

Just got my new Tundra. Nice truck. Not all the fancy stuff, but a bullet proof drive train and reliability. Has everything I need, and less stuff go go wrong.
