It’s all those damn pizza ovens in NYC. Thank god they’re doing something about that.

Sounds like I should give summer tours in my attic for $2.

Looks like no record today. They hit 125°, 2° off of the NWS forecast high. Not good enough for the daily record, either, which looks like 128°.

ETA: Tomorrow's forecast high from NWS Las Vegas is 129°, so still not forecasting a world record. If it did reach that, though, it would be a daily record.

It’s crazy that you can have this highest mountain in the US only 84 miles from the lowest point in North America. CA has some fricked up politics but the geography and terrain are incredible.

d love to feel it once. Just to see what its like.

It’s HOT!!

It was 115 at our house a couple of years ago. AC couldn’t keep up. We set it to 90, closed the windows, covered with blankets or whatever we had, brought all the fans in the den and just sat.

I don’t want to get anywhere near 131.

If you have enough water, you may be miserable out there but your sweat will still be able to cool you down.

Part of the danger is not drinking enough water even if you had it.

You probably won’t visibly sweat for most of your losses, and won’t drink until you are already in severe dehydration.

Hiking in the Grand Canyon, and I drank literal gallons of fluids over the day and urine was still yellow due to all of the atmospheric losses.

Bingo.

Direct sunlight is 10-20 hotter than the official air temperature. Add pavement and it can feel even more so.

“ something has to be done about our green house gas emissions”

So conservatives going to Death Valley trigger you but Obama and Gore’s Oceanside estates don’t.

Currently at 117° with a max temp of 118° so far today. It is a quarter til one there. Temp has to rise another 14° to break the record, and another 12° to reach the NWS Las Vegas forecast high for the day.

Of course people will risk death just to post a video on tik tok dancing in the 130 degree heat. Gotta get those likes.

It'd be funny as hell if while the gawkers are baking while staring at the thermometer in DV your area sets the world record and only a handful of people are around to see/feel it.

I'd like that story. Pretty fitting.

ETA: Currently 120° at 1:23pm in Death Valley.

It was hot as shite in my driveway this afternoon. 113 heat index/ 92 F/ 84% humidity / 85 dew point.

I’ll take the desert heat.

Headed to Palm Desert, CA tomorrow for work. Looking forward to the 115 heat.

Current temp 124° max temp 125°. Needs 7° more for a new world record. Still 4° shy of the forecast high for the day.

Current temp is 126°, and that's the max so far. Doesn't look like the record will fall, nor will the temp reach the forecast high.

Goes to show that forecasting extreme temps is hard, and we probably shouldn't be running articles hyping such temps days out, especially when the articles are filled with hysterics and big leaps.
