You're right, ROTC is the only way to get a full ride.

That's not me, but I know who you're talking about.

I remember the ROTC honor societies making their new members do pushups in the Quad and nary a word being said about hazing...

Update: Just got a call from our Congressman. Officially offered appointment to Annapolis. West Point probably in a few days.

Now to sweat out what we hear from the traditional schools he applied to and talk that out.

UPDATE: Surprising to me, but looking like West Point is going to get the nod.

Got his appointments for both, and Annapolis has been the more "connected" (overnight stay, connection with a department head that was also a 2-star and chaplain at USNA, local BGO is an industry colleague with me).

West Point speaks more to the "brotherhood" thing that got him looking at academies in the first place. He also said the classes felt more intimate and engaged than at Annapolis.

It was a surprise to me, and Mrs. Zwin is not taking it all that well. I think the relative safety of a ship (compared to infantry) has her spooked. She'll come around.

No downside to either choice, but I was looking forward to weekends in Annapolis. The area around WP is considerably less charming and entertaining. Not what he's going for, though, and this is his decision.

Most WP grads I know are itching to get the hell out of the Army

Congrats to your son though. I still think traditional/ROTC is the best way to go.

Congratulations to you and your son. That would be a dream come true for me and my son. The military academies, in my opinion, set you up for life much better than a standard Ivy League...

Plus no debt and an immediate occupation for at least the next 6 years. At 24, he will have accomplished more than many do in a lifetime.

Probably meant the LOA, there are lots of qualified candidates and also candidates with political pull, a needed demographic quality or do something special with a ball.
